Outsource the windscreen replacement for an Opel Corsa or do it yourself?

Since the introduction of the Opel Corsa in 1982, it has been a very popular compact car. It is still one of Opel's best selling models. Five generations of this car have now gone into production, the latest version of which was introduced in 2014 at the time of writing. The fact that the first generation of this model can still be seen a lot on the roads is an indication of how reliable and solid the cars are. However, it is possible that certain parts may have to be replaced. The windscreen replacement of an Opel Corsa may be necessary if it is destroyed by rubble, accident or vandalism. Cheap replacement of an Opel Corsa windscreen can be done by ordering the automotive glass from us. We can take care of the installation for you or you can of course do this yourself. The price will in all cases be a lot lower than a brand dealer will charge you. Here you can read more about the special history of the Opel Corsa and about simply and cheaply replacing a windscreen.

The history of the Opel Corsa

The history of the Opel car brand begins in 1837 with Adam Opel. He started manufacturing sewing machines, but soon switched to making bikes. His sons became all commendable cyclists. In the long run, however, the sons of Opel saw more future in the production of a new and even faster means of transport: the car. From 1899 onwards, the first Opel cars were made. This first production site in Rüsselsheim is still in use. There are still more than 12,000 people working here. A special first Opel vehicle was the 4/8 PS known as the 'Doktorwagen':
because of its high reliability, many doctors drove it in to their patients. This reliability has always remained central and can also be found in the Opel Corsa.

The different versions of the Opel Corsa or Vauxhall Corsa

The Opel Corsa has been in production since 1982. At the time, it was Opel's first car in the economy class and a successor to the slightly larger and also world-famous Opel Kadett. For the production of the Opel Corsa, a new factory was built in Zaragoza, Spain. The Opel Corsa's still roll off the tyre here and nowadays more than 9 million cars have been produced in this factory.

There are five generations of the Opel Corsa of which only the last is still in production:

  1. Corsa A: 1982 - 1993
  2. Corsa B: 1993 - 2000
  3. Corsa C: 2000 - 2006
  4. Corsa D: 2006 - 2014
  5. Corsa E: 2014 - present

In addition, this car is also known under other names. In England, for example, it's the Vauxhall Corsa, while the car goes through South America like the Chevrolet Corsa and in Australia it's called the Holden Barina. By the way, the windscreen replacement of an Opel Corsa is always possible via us, whatever the version you have. The price of replacing the windscreen depends on the year of construction and the options in the windscreen. We will tell you about the adjustments that have been made over the years and about the influence of Opel Corsa on other Opel models, among other things.

Features of the Opel Corsa

The first version of the Opel Corsa was only available as a three-door hatchback or second-door sedan. However, the switch to the three- and five-door variants was made fairly quickly. These are also the standard versions in the latest generation of Opel Corsa. It is also interesting to see that during the almost 35 years that the Opel Corsa has been in production, the architecture of the undercarriage has hardly been adapted. Of course, the exterior and the interior is quite different nowadays. The latest versions of the Opel Corsa also feature modern gadgets like:

  • web connection
  • infotainment systems
  • driver assistance systems
  • park assistant
  • light- and rain sensors

Of course, there are many more changes in the power of the Opel Corsa. Today there is a model available with 207 HP, while the first version mainly delivered vehicles with 45 HP. The influence of the Opel Corsa on other Opel models is also particularly great. Among other models, the following are based on the Opel Corsa or use, for example, the undercarriage of this model:

  1. Opel Combo
  2. Opel Tigra
  3. Opel Meriva
  4. Opel Adam

The windscreen replacement of my Opel Corsa

As you have been able to read, many different versions of Opel Corsa have come onto the market in recent decades. The influential car has many advantages and is also an affordable car that remains reliable for a long time. However, it may be necessary to replace the windscreen of an Opel Corsa.

Although the windscreen is a lot stronger than, for example, the side and rear windows, it cannot fall into countless small pieces. Because of the double layer of glass with a PVB film
in between it can fortunately not break and fall into a thousand pieces, but driving with a cracked windscreen is certainly not recommended. It is not forbidden to drive on with the glass damage and the windscreen replacement of the Opel Corsa is not necessarily required directly. It is also possible that the car will pass the MOT inspection despite a small single crack.

An important point to take into consideration, however, is safety. The stiffness of a car comes largely from the windscreen. In the event of an accident, there is a serious risk that a car window will no longer be intact. Replacing your Opel Corsa windscreen is therefore highly recommended in the event of damage.

How can it be that a windscreen replacement of an Opel Corsa is so much cheaper here?

More than 10 million Opel Corsa's have been sold since 1982, yet buying a new windscreen from a brand dealer is still an expensive business. There is a simple reason why it is so much cheaper to have a windscreen replacement of an Opel Corsa with us. Car windows with a brand logo may only be sold by authorised dealers. This means that they can largely control the price themselves and that makes the windscreen replacement of an Opel Corsa at the brand dealer always a lot more expensive than necessary.
