Windscreen replacement for your Peugeot 307

More than 2,500,000 copies of the Peugeot 307 were sold in Europe during the production years of this model. Is the windscreen replacement of your Peugeot 307 necessary, then you can go to the after market. Also for other parts by the way, because this Peugeot model has a reliable engine, but for the rest there have been many problems with the models that were produced before the facelift. Nevertheless, there are still many examples of this type on the road.

How successful did this model become and with which model did the Peugeot 307 have to compete on the European market - and why did it lose the battle?

The Peugeot 307, the Car of the Year in 2002

The Peugeot 307 was launched in 2001 and was already awarded Car of the Year in 2002
by a professional jury of 55 journalists in the automotive industry from 21 countries. A good start for the successor to the Peugeot 306, which was taken out of production in 2002. The 306's platform was not taken over on a 1:1 basis. After several modifications, especially in size, the platform was approved for the construction of the Peugeot 307. This platform was also used for the Citroën Xsara and the Citroën ZX.

What is particularly striking is that Peugeot did not continue the styling of the Peugeot 306 to the Peugeot 307. PSA wanted to compete with the 306 by using a different interior, but was held to account because the layout was similar to that of the Volkswagen Golf, but the quality did not have the same standard. Of course this had to be avoided with the Peugeot 307.

That is why Peugeot took the history books and took the styling of the Peugeot 206 (Peugeot's best-selling model) and the Peugeot 607 as a basis for the new Peugeot 307. The Peugeot 307 had to win the competition from the Ford Focus and the Honda Civic, but the real competitor for the podium places was again the Volkswagen Golf, which was able to gain an ever stronger market share.

The reliability of the Peugeot 307 remains a problem

The first generation of the Peugeot 307 regularly encountered problems and the reliability of this model has often been questioned. However, after the facelift in 2005, which mainly focused on external features in order to re-enter the competition, the number of problem reports has fallen sharply. On the contrary, the models from 2006 and 2007 are considered reliable.

The fact that 'The Whale' or 'The Flying Frog', as the 307 was also called, had constant problems with the gearbox did not really work in favour of the Peugeot 307. This was the rally model of the Peugeot 307 CC that would ride in the World Rally Championship. After repeated problems, PSA
decided in 2005 to get both Peugeot and Citroën out of the top of the rally.

How successful was the Peugeot 307 compared to the Volkswagen Golf?

The Peugeot 307 is known as the car in which Peugeot went back on its own styling, but chose better materials for the interior. Yet it continued to look cheaper than the interior of the Volkswagen Golf, which was available on the market in the same segment. This can be seen from the sales figures, although Peugeot will certainly not regret the 2,500,000 units sold in Europe over the years. Only the Peugeot 206 sold better on European soil.

The figures cannot be compared with the sales of the Volkswagen Golf in the same period (well over 4,700,000). Volkswagen and Peugeot use a different way of setting up the models. Peugeot doesn't usually have several generations of a certain type. By way of comparison: the 'second generation' of the Peugeot 306 became the new Peugeot 307. The Volkswagen Golf has had more than seven generations without all the facelifts and extra models. This means that comparing sales figures is always to the detriment of Peugeot.

By the way, it became very clear that Peugeot wanted to compete with Volkswagen, including the Peugeot 307 SW. This car was considerably longer and higher than the Golf models. And of course the French were able to make this very 'subtle' clear in the advertisements:

When should the Peugeot 307 windscreen be replaced?

An asterisk or a crack in the windscreen is not always a reason to replace the windscreen immediately. According to the guidelines of the Dutch national road traffic authority (RDW), the Peugeot 307 windscreen must be replaced when there is an obstruction in the driver's field of vision:

  • A star of 20 millimetres or more is present
  • A branched crack is present

A branched crack is a place where several cracks meet. It does not matter in which layer of the laminated windscreen the crack is. In case of a single window breakage, the windscreen does not need to be replaced immediately. Nevertheless, it is wise to keep a close eye on the crack. It can branch out at large temperature differences, which makes the window damage so serious that you are no longer allowed to continue driving.

Can I replace the windscreen of my Peugeot 307 myself?

If you are not sure about this, it would be better to leave it to our certified fitting partners. The windscreen must be installed accurately so that it does not come loose when braking abruptly. In addition, a correctly fitted windscreen will not leak. It is also recommended that you outsource the work for the rear window replacement of a Peugeot 307.

Do you have a lot of experience in replacing windscreens or are you, for example, a car mechanic or garage owner? Then you can order the new windscreens for the Peugeot 307 from us without installation.

How can I replace the windscreen of my Peugeot 307 as cheaply as possible?

By choosing after market automotive glass. Our new Peugeot windscreens are very competitively priced. For as little as € 299 you will have a new green tinted windscreen for the Peugeot 307 that is suitable for all years of construction of this model. That price is lower than many second-hand car windows and we are happy to explain how this is possible.

When determining the price for a second hand car window, the new price is taken into account. If it concerns an original windscreen, this is a car window with a brand logo. Because of this logo, the prices are immediately considerably higher. So much higher that a new after market car window is often cheaper than a second-hand branded window. The price of a new windscreen depends on the options. A few examples:

Windscreen Peugeot 307, green tinted

€ 299.00

Windscreen Peugeot 307, purple coated with rain sensor (2003 to 2008)

€ 409.00

Windscreen Peugeot 307 CC, green tinted

€ 499.00

Optional fitting on location

€ 100.00 (NL) - € 130.00 (BE)

In addition to the price advantage, you also have many advantages when you choose a new windscreen:

  1. Can always be installed by certified mechanics
  2. Warranty on the windscreen and labour
  3. Delivery within three working days
  4. Easy to order online without any hassle
  5. Always a customer service that helps you find the right windscreen
