Windscreen replacement for your Peugeot 106

The Peugeot 106 is without a doubt a special model. If you need to replace the windscreen of your Peugeot 106, you will soon see how diverse this type is. Several versions have been launched and the model has been sold more than 75,000 times on Dutch soil. Also today there is a lot of searching for the older types that have often driven around the clock.

This ensures a lively after market and there you will find affordable windscreens for your Peugeot 106. Before we look at the prices of replacing the Peugeot 106 windscreen, we will of course take a look at this model, which is very similar to another type of PSA.

The introduction of the 106: did Peugeot itself know what it did?

At the introduction of the compact Peugeot 106 it was not entirely clear where this model would be placed in the market. It can't be a successor of the Peugeot 104 for two reasons:

  • The third number in the type number of Peugeot models stands for the generation. After the 104, the 105 has to come first and it has never been made
  • The 104 has not been delivered in the Netherlands for more than seven years

It would therefore be a successor to the Peugeot 205. Something that makes no sense because the first number in Peugeot's type stands for the size of the car. In any case, the generation numbers were correct here. This would never happen because the Peugeot 205 was so popular that the Peugeot 106 and the Peugeot 205 would be on the market at the same time.

To illustrate: according to the sales figures of Autoweek, the Peugeot 106 was sold 76,000 times in the Netherlands. The Peugeot 205 did much better with 142,000 copies! Only the Peugeot 206 sold more copies in our country!

The Peugeot 106 versus the Citroën Saxo

Two series of the Peugeot 106 have appeared on the market. The first series went into production in 1991 and was made until 1995. The second series followed in 1996 and remained in production until 2003. With these types it became very clear that PSA
(Peugeot Société Anonyme) owned Citroën. The first series got exactly the same suspension as the Saxo and literally borrowed all engines from the Citroën AX.

In the second series the differences became even smaller: PSA only decided to use more standardized parts, so that repairs can be carried out more easily and cheaply. This also meant that the type could be placed on the market cheaply. PSA used a German method for this: the basic version was a completely undressed model and the rest was optionally available.

The electric version of the second series

In 1995, Peugeot decided to launch an electric model in the second series in cooperation with Heuliez.
Peugeot had enormous expectations of the model with a top speed below 100 kilometres per hour and a range of a sloppy 100 kilometres. The expectation: annual demand of around 20,000 copies and a production of 100,000 copies.

The reality turned out to be different. The high price and the technology that was still in its infancy meant that less than 6500 cars were sold. Most of them even went directly to the French government.

Many versions, possibilities and adaptations

There are many versions and configurations of the Peugeot 106 made, partly because of the huge demand for this model. This has led to a large arsenal of possibilities on the market, which are still attractive today. Although... With the Peugeot 106 it is clear that not everyone can like the same car. Enthusiasts like to spend the whole weekend with their car, where others wonder when a French car will fall apart. But, honestly, some models have stood the test of time.

When should the windscreen of a Peugeot 106 be replaced?

If the windscreen of your Peugeot 106 is damaged in a way that does not comply with the guidelines of the national road traffic authority (which is called RDW in the Netherlands), then the windscreen must be replaced. In concrete terms, this means branched cracks or asterisks in the driver's field of vision greater than 20 millimetres. Note: a crack in the outer layer of the laminated windscreen that crosses with a crack in the inner layer of the windscreen of your Peugeot 106 is also counted as a branched crack!

Have you made a hobby project of your Peugeot 106, do you still drive daily in your compact economical French pearl with windscreen damage or do you have a Peugeot 106 in mind that needs a car window replacement? Then it's good to know that there are particularly attractive possibilities.

What does a windscreen cost for a Peugeot 106?

For € 199 you have a windscreen for your Peugeot 106 that fits all models of this type. The windscreens of the Peugeot are also interchangeable with the models of the Saxo, because the same chassis and the same dimensions are used.

Buying a new car window is not very attractive when you look at the prices that a Peugeot dealer charges. However, if you look at the prices on the after market, you will immediately see that the most expensive windscreen for a Peugeot 106 only costs € 369. It is heat reflective and also fits on a Citroën Saxo.
