Cheap windscreen replacement for your Renault Safrane

The Renault Safrane is undoubtedly one of Renault's most extraordinary models. As the name ('saffron') suggests, it is a more luxurious version of the French car manufacturer. It is said that Volvo did not dare to bring the Renault Safrane to Sweden because it would compete with the more luxurious models of Volvo itself. Incidentally, less than a million copies of the Safrane have been produced, and something has clearly gone wrong somewhere.

Do you have a Renault Safrane with windscreen damage? Then this may mean that you need a windscreen replacement. With an after market windscreen you always have the best value for money and we are happy to arrange for the windscreen to be replaced on site. Before we go into this in more detail, we first look at this Renault model that could have been a lot, but never really hit the mark.

The Renault Safrane: luxury and above all a high standard

The first Renault Safrane was launched on the market in 1992. During its production years, the Safrane has always been Renault's most luxurious car, with the highest standard. However, sales successes did not materialise. The Renault Safrane was the successor to the Renault 25 (which had become downright old-fashioned) and was to be succeeded by the Renault Vel Satis
at the end of the production period.

The model was not very surprising. There were clear similarities with the 25, its predecessor. Also the design was characteristic for the early 90's (no fuss and just aerodynamic). The Safrane was immediately delivered with front-wheel and four-wheel drive, with petrol and diesel engines and manual and automatic gearboxes. Nice fact: the Safrane is the first Renault to be fitted with airbags as standard.

Where exactly did things go wrong with the Renault Safrane?

Less than 13,000 copies of the Safrane have been sold. You could say that this has to do with the higher price range of the Safrane. This has certainly contributed to the moderate success of the model. The average Renault driver had little appetite for a Renault that fell in the price range of the more expensive cars, such as the E-segment models of Audi, BMW and Mercedes. The regular Renault buyer was looking for a Renault with a Renault price.

Another disadvantage of the Safrane was the poor status of its predecessor. It was immediately clear that the Safrane had a lot in common with the Renault 25. Precisely that model had many weaknesses. For example, the quality of the car was downright poor and the lack of rigidity of the chassis made the car feel uncomfortable while driving.

What also turned out to be the wrong move was to reduce the noise in the car itself. Not the idea itself, by the way, but the way in which this was carried out. Renault focused on the use of soundproofing material in the car, which has a much higher weight. This made the car 250 kilos heavier on average than its predecessor. Not only did this result in higher fuel consumption, it also had consequences for the driving characteristics.

The Safrane Biturbo: the complete flop for the Safrane

So far no success story for the Safrane. But brace yourselves, because it is getting much worse. Renault decided back in 1994 to develop a high performance model of the Safrane: the Safrane Biturbo. A twin-turbo model with 258 hp and a 3.0 litre V6 engine developed in cooperation with Hartge and Irmscher, a tuning company from Germany. Four-wheel drive under it and a luxury monster was born. Total production figures: 806...

How could this happen? Renault made a crucial mistake. The Safrane Biturbo was only available as a manual gearbox, where the demand in this segment consisted almost exclusively of automatic gearboxes. And an automatic gearbox was impossible. There was not a single automatic gearbox in the world suitable for the transverse engine with so much power and four-wheel drive. This meant that the grave for the Safrane Biturbo had already been dug before the first model rolled out of the factory.

When should the windscreen of the Renault Safrane be replaced?

Car window replacement is not always immediately necessary in the event of damage to the windscreen. An average crack is no reason to panic. The windscreen of your Renault Safrane should only be replaced in the event of two types of damage. These are always windscreen damage in the driver's sight:

  • A chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres
  • A branched crack

In the above cases you are not allowed to continue driving the car, because the windscreen no longer meets the minimum requirements of the RDW (the Dutch National Road Transport Agency). The car will therefore be rejected at the next mot. If the chip or crack is outside the driver's field of vision, this is not always a rejection.

How much does a new windscreen cost for the Renault Safrane?

Exclusive car, so high prices for a new windscreen? That is not what we are doing. With us you already have a new windscreen for your Renault Safrane for € 269. This price is much lower than the price at the Renault dealer, who only sells windscreens with a brand logo. This logo does nothing for the windscreen, but it does give you exclusivity which is reflected in the price.

Our after market automotive glass does not carry a brand logo. By the way, the quality of the automotive glass is identical. The after market windscreens are made in the same way and in the same place as the brand windows.
