Cheap windscreen replacement for your Renault Trafic

The Renault Trafic has become one of the iconic company cars. The first models rolled out of the factories as early as 1980 and the flow of models has been unstoppable ever since. Renault Trafic is not only sought after by the corporate fleet. Many of the (often older) models have been bought and converted by private individuals, for example into motorhomes to travel the world with. Do you have a Renault Trafic with windscreen damage? If so, your Renault Trafic may need a windscreen replacement. This doesn't always have to cost the main price; on the after market you already have a new windscreen for the Renault Trafic from € 269.

Before we take a closer look at the cheap after market windscreens for the Trafic, we will first take a closer look at this very popular model, which has been given more than one name over the years.

1980: the birth of the Renault Trafic

The first generation of the Renault Trafic saw the light of day in 1980 and would remain in production for no less than 20 years, albeit with various modifications. Striking about the first models is that you can see at the front of the car which engine is under the bonnet. A flat grille means a 1397cc engine, where the 2.1 litre diesel and 1647 cc petrol engines are placed behind an protruding grille.

As early as 1984 Renault introduced the four-wheel drive Trafic. This was only possible on the diesel version with the five-speed manual gearbox. In 1989, all models were given a facelift in which the Trafic became less angular and was fitted with rounder, more modern shapes.

The first generation of the Trafic (the Mk1 Trafic) was particularly popular among handy holidaymakers. The Trafic models were converted into motorhomes, where the generous space, relatively small size and flexibility of the design made the Trafic preferable to competitor models.

Second generation of the Renault Trafic

After several adjustments, 2001 was the time for the second generation of the Trafic. It would no longer be truly French, by the way. It became a collaboration with Opel and Nissan, whose counterparts would become Opel Vivaro and Nissan Primastar.

Renault chose to set up the second generation as wide as possible. Immediately at the launch, various versions were already available. From a 3-seater for companies to a complete 9-seater for taxi companies or larger families. In 2006 the Renault Trafic was given a facelift. No big surprises by the way; the orange lamp boxes were replaced by a transparent alternative and these were better incorporated in the front of the car. And that was the facelift.

2014: the third generation of the Renault Trafic; again badge engineering

When something works, it is good. That is what the partners must have thought when the third generation of Trafic was developed. So again badge engineering.
Fiat chose to develop the Fiat Talento out of the Trafic, and Opel simply released the Trafic under its own name.
However, the Opel Vivaro did not remain in production as long as the Renault Trafic. In 2018, Opel was taken over by the PSA group,
which pulled the plug on the model (in competition with its own market, after all) and, in return, launched the Citroën Jumpy on the market from 2019.

The success of the Renault Trafic in the Netherlands

The Renault Trafic has been in production for a very long time. It is a versatile model, with older models in particular still popular among private individuals for converting the car. Is the popularity reflected in sales figures in the Netherlands? Absolutely not. On our soil, the Trafic did not raise a lot of dust. Just over 2200 copies were sold, making it one of the weaker Renault models in the Netherlands. The same applied to the Opel Vivaro, Trafic's sister. It just tickled the 3200 copies and did not break any records either.

When should the windscreen of your Renault Trafic be replaced?

Damage to the windscreen is extremely annoying, but it is not always necessary to replace the entire windscreen of your Renault Trafic. On the contrary, in two cases, car window replacement is unavoidable if you want to continue using your Trafic. These are damage to the driver's field of vision and this is a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres, or a branched crack. In either case, you may not continue to drive the Trafic.

A crack in the windscreen outside the driver's field of vision is therefore no reason to panic. However, it is wise to keep an eye on the damage to the windscreen, as the crack can rupture further. The risk of tearing is greatest at extreme temperatures, such as when driving with air conditioning on in summer or driving in winter with the heating on the windscreen.

How much does a new windscreen cost for Renault Trafic?

You already have a new windscreen for the Renault Trafic from € 269. These are not the prices you see at the average Renault dealer. The dealer only sells windscreens with a brand logo. This logo does nothing for the windscreen, but it does ensure exclusivity. The exclusive character of the windscreens makes the price high.

After market windscreens for Renault Trafic do not carry a brand logo. That is why the prices are much lower. By the way, the quality is identical. The windscreens are made in the same factories.
