Cheap windscreen replacement for your Ford Mondeo

That the Ford Mondeo had to be a global success was already in the name, which means 'world' in Latin. Ford decided to offer the Mondeo all over the world, albeit under different names, but everywhere it was to be a quality car with a low entry price. This obviously contributed to the success of the Mondeo, which also did extremely well in the Netherlands. Do you have a Mondeo with a chipped windscreen and need a windscreen replacement? Then you will find windscreens with the best value for money with us. Before we explain to you how this is possible, let's look at Ford's world car that lost out to the American carmaker's grand plans.

The 'car of the world' that hit the market in 1993

The first models of the Ford Mondeo arrived at dealerships in 1992, and by 1993 the Mondeo was available almost everywhere. It was one of the models where Ford's US and European divisions worked closely together to offer a model for the whole world. In Europe, the Mondeo became the replacement for the Ford Sierra (and the Telstar, Contour and Mercury Mystique). The medium-sized family car was available not only with front-wheel drive, but also as an all-wheel drive model.

In 1996, the Mondeo received a facelift, which would be named Ford Mondeo Mk II, with the estate version keeping only the same doors, roof and panels behind as the original model. The rest was modified.

Second generation: much more attention to the interior

After the facelift in 1996, the second generation of the Mondeo arrived in 2000, on the same platform but with much more attention to the interior, which was copied from Volkswagen (especially the Volkswagen Passat). This made Ford the first US carmaker to allow a 'German' design influence to design the entire interior.

The second generation of the Mondeo was never launched in Australia and was the last generation for the Mexican market, where the Ford Fusion would knock the type off the market.

2006: the third generation on the EUCD platform

Production continued in the rest of the world, when the third generation was due to enter the market in 2006 and major changes were visible. Ford collaborated with Volvo on the EUCD platform (also known from the Volvo S80, Land Rover Freelander 2 and the Ford Galaxy). While this model would be offered again in Australia in 2007, it did not reach the US and Canadian markets because Ford already had the Fusion there.

2012: fourth generation and the end of an era

The fourth generation would also be offered as a Fusion in America and this generation combined quite a few elements from the previous generations of the Fusion and Mondeo into a new model, but Ford realised early on that demand for these models was declining. It was therefore decided to stop production as early as 2022, partly because from this point Ford wanted to work mainly on crossovers, SUVs and electric cars.

Incidentally, a fifth generation of the Mondeo did arrive, but it would only be offered as a saloon in China and the Middle East. In the latter region, the type was placed at dealerships as Ford Taurus.

Has the Ford Mondeo become a sales success?

Absolute sales figures are tricky and unreliable when it comes to the Ford Mondeo, which was sold worldwide but also under other names. Looking exclusively at the Netherlands, it is immediately clear how big the success has been. The Mondeo falls just outside the top three (Ford Escort, Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus) with Ford's best-selling models in our country. Some 175,000 units of the Mondeo were sold in the Netherlands, which is a great success for Ford. The model was also a success outside the Netherlands. In the first four years of production alone, more than a million copies were sold in Europe.

We normally show you here one of the advertisements from the car manufacturer itself, but with Ford, it is often difficult to find attractive, fun content. Unless it is about the Ford Mondeo, because in this advert you can see how remarkably the Mondeo is promoted (and for the car connoisseur: built).

When should the windscreen of your Ford Mondeo be replaced?

A chipped windscreen is annoying, especially when it is in your field of vision and the windshield damage interferes with your driving. Nevertheless, not every kind of windscreen damage is reason for rejection at the MOT. Only when it comes to windscreen damage in the driver's field of vision involving a branched crack or star with a diameter of 20 millimetres or more, the car will no longer pass the inspection.

Continuing to drive with damage in the windscreen is unwise if the windscreen damage is distracting. Also bear in mind that incoming light can be reflected in unpredictable ways when the window is no longer intact. Therefore, always be critical when considering whether to replace the windscreen (or have it replaced).
