Cheap windscreen replacement for your Ford Puma

Produced as a limited edition for the European market, the Ford Puma was a special model, mainly because it combined a new design and sporty appearance with a model we know from extreme, boring solidity. Are you one of the owners of a Puma and need your windscreen replaced due to extensive windscreen damage? Then you can find a new windscreen at an especially competitive price with us.

Before we look at our cheap replacement car windows for the Ford Puma, let's take a look at this striking model.

1997: the introduction of the Ford Puma (with an unusual manufacturing process)

Although the Ford Puma entered the market in 1997, development began as early as 1993. The idea was to develop a coupé based on the Ford Fiesta and the result was first shown to the public in 1996, to actually arrive at dealerships a year later.

The new Puma does indeed look a lot like the fourth generation of the Fiesta, but stands out mainly for its sporty, somewhat cheeky design. The big bouncer, however, is under the bonnet, as the new engines have been made in collaboration with Yamaha. This was done in a particularly strange way, by the way, as the engines were flown from Europe to Japan, where Yamaha mechanics had about 20 minutes of work per engine and the engines could be flown back to Europe.

133,000 models produced in four years

The Puma was made from 1997 to 2001, but Ford left the model at dealerships for another year to sell its stock of models. Numerous special models were made, all of which also rolled out of the factory in limited editions, including the Ford Racing Puma, which was said to be much more expensive than the Subaru Impreza even at its introduction.

After the Ford Puma, Ford did not immediately launch a new small coupe. The US carmaker decided to go in a completely new direction with the Ford StreetKa, which incidentally, like the Puma, is based on the Fiesta, to still try to match the success of one of Ford's best-selling models (without success, by the way).

2019: an all-new crossover Ford Puma

In 2019, Ford surprised with an all-new version of the Puma, which as a crossover was to be the counterpart of the Ford Fiesta (seventh generation). This version only came to Europe, South Africa and Australia, and Ford immediately announced that an all-electric Puma would arrive at dealerships in 2024 to better match demand in the modern market.

Ford's sub-compact crossover SUV became a success, especially in Britain where it managed to beat the sales figures of the Fiesta in 2021. At the same time, there has been a lot of criticism of the new Puma in Europe, mainly because the model lost out to the competition in many areas, especially in terms of ease of use in the infotainment system, for example. At the same time, the Puma was praised for its larger rear windows (despite the limited space in the back seat), as this would make small children less likely to get carsick than in, say, a Nissan Juke or Toyota C-HR.

Has the Ford Puma been a sales success?

With a production run of 133,000 units over four years with sales extended by a year to sell off stock, we cannot directly speak of a sales success. Although it should be immediately added that this model was made exclusively for the European market and more than 11,000 units
were sold in the Netherlands, with this still being a sought-after model because of the Puma's striking appearance. Not a resounding success, but certainly not a flop either as the Puma still sold better in the Netherlands than, say, the Ford B-Max or the Ford EcoSport.

Top Gear's Jeremy Clarkson was one of the first to test the Puma and in the 6.5-minute video below, you can see how he touches on all the points that caused so much controversy. Wasn't the Puma just a beefed-up Fiesta with a different engine and actually somewhat underpriced? Or was the Puma's success limited by the limited edition with which Ford sought to make the model iconic?

When should the windscreen of your Ford Puma be replaced?

The risk of windscreen damage is constantly present when you use your car, but far from all cases of car windscreen damage are cause for panic. In fact, in most cases, you can continue driving as normal with a chipped windscreen. In two cases of windscreen damage, the car will not pass the MOT. These are damage in the windscreen in the driver's field of vision involving a branched crack or a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres.

In such cases, the windscreen of your Ford Puma needs to be replaced as it is not safe to continue driving. Not only does damage to the windscreen distract while driving, it can also cause incoming light (such as the sun or headlights of oncoming vehicles) to be reflected in unpredictable ways.

What does a new windscreen for your Ford Puma cost?

You already have a new windscreen for your Ford Puma for €399 including VAT. For €599, you even have a windscreen with heating for your car. That's considerably cheaper than what your Ford dealer will charge you, and there's a good reason for it.

The Ford dealer only offers windscreens with a brand logo. This logo does nothing for the automotive glass, but it does make the car windows exclusive and you can see that in the price. Our car windows are identical to the windscreens at the dealer, except for the logo. This means that our replacement windscreens are always the best value for money and you can always find automotive glass at the most competitive prices with us. The price difference is so great that our new windscreens are almost always even cheaper than second-hand automotive glass for your Ford Puma.
