Cheap windscreen replacement for your Volvo C40

The Volvo C40 Recharge was the first Volvo to be available exclusively as an electric car. At the same time, it is one of the models where the Swedes had to put an order freeze because not enough copies could be delivered. In many ways, the Volvo C40 is a striking model, partly because it was competing against another Volvo model in the background. Do you have a Volvo C40 with windscreen damage? If so, chances are that the windscreen has to be replaced. Before we get into this further, let's take a look at this particular plug-in car from Volvo.

The Volvo C40 Recharge: the first Volvo to be exclusively electric

The Volvo C40 Recharge was a pioneer for the Swedish carmaker. It was the first model that could not be delivered with an internal combustion engine, and with it Volvo would enter a new era. Sales of this model, which came with a 78 kWh battery pack with a range just above 350 kilometres, began in September 2021. The powertrain is almost identical to that of the XC40 Recharge and actually the biggest difference is the car's roof, with the C40 looking a little more like a coupe version.

The battle or collaboration between the Volvo XC40 and the Volvo C40

The Volvo C40 was to be the counterpart to the XC40 where a different market would be addressed, namely the environmentally conscious consumer concerned about emissions and the possibilities of electric driving. That is why Volvo left behind the era of the devouring Volvo V60, but it soon turned out that there was a kink in it. When the Volvo XC40 Recharge hit the market, it was an (in)direct competitor to the C40. Indeed, in the Swedish media, Dagens PS (one of the biggest news websites) immediately wrote that preferring the C40 to the XC40 Recharge was incomprehensible. For those who can read Swedish: the source

The verdict was scathing: the Volvo XC40 Recharge would be both better and cheaper than the Volvo C40. The Volvo XC40 had knocked its own little brother off the market with the Recharge variant, which supplied virtually the same market.

Was the Volvo C40 a sales success?

The moment the Volvo C40 was launched, it immediately had two problems. First, the platform on which the C40 Recharge was built was already obsolete when the model was introduced. In addition, the C40 entered a market with numerous competitors (including the MG Marvel but more so the Audi Q4 e-tron) and numerous major manufacturers who had announced new models. Volvo's promotional video therefore showed much more of the car for the C40 than other models, partly to entice consumers to opt for the C40.

Nevertheless, the C40 Recharge held up fine, even despite the sales success of the XC40 Recharge taking over most of the market. From launch to Q3 2023, more than 38,400 copies were sold worldwide, which is a fine score for an electric car in this price segment. Especially when taking into account the supply problems of chips and batteries, among others, which forced Volvo to take an order break to clear the backlog.

When does your Volvo C40 windscreen need replacing?

It could just happen that a pebble hits your windscreen while driving, or that you suffer windscreen damage to your Volvo C40 in some other way. In most cases, there is not much to worry about. In fact, although car windscreen damage is annoying, the windscreen does not usually need to be replaced. The windscreen of your Volvo C40 Recharge does need to be replaced when the windscreen damage is bothersome and therefore dangerous. This is the case when the windscreen damage is in the driver's field of vision and this is a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres or a branched crack.

With windscreen damage of this size in this location, the car will no longer pass the MOT. It is also dangerous to continue driving with this, as incident light can be reflected in unpredictable ways.

What does a new Volvo C40 windscreen cost?

You already have a new windscreen for your Volvo C40 from €969. This is the total price of the windscreen itself, including VAT, but excluding the cost of delivery and fitting. The total price for a new Volvo C40 windscreen including delivery and fitting depends on the country in which the windscreen needs to be replaced and how much of a hurry you are. For example, if you want the windscreen of your Volvo C40 Recharge replaced within 14 days in the Netherlands, then €100 delivery and installation will be added to the price of the windscreen. You can always see the total price while adjusting the variables in the ordering process, so you know exactly what the exact cost for the new windscreen will be.

After market windscreens for the Volvo C40 Recharge versus dealer glass

The prices for our windscreens are significantly lower than the prices you find at your Volvo dealer. This is solely due to a brand logo. This is because the quality of our after-market car windows is identical to your dealer's branded windows. However, because we have no brand logo in the car windows and the automotive glass is therefore not exclusive, we can offer you much lower prices. This automatically means that our cheaper car windows are much better value for money than your dealer's branded windows.

Can you replace the windscreen of your Volvo C40 yourself?

Replacing windscreens is work for automotive glass specialists. If you have little or no automotive glass replacement experience, we strongly discourage you from working on your Volvo C40 windscreen yourself. There is a high risk of damaging your Volvo C40 while (dis)assembling the automotive glass. Dangerous situations can also arise when the windscreen is not fitted properly.

Our certified fitting partners will be happy to take the work off your hands. They install our windscreens throughout the Netherlands and Belgium and always do so on location to make things as easy as possible for you. When you ensure that our partners can reach your car at the agreed time, you have nothing else to worry about. So the replacement can even be done in the car park of the company where you work, or at home in your own driveway. With on-site windscreen replacement, we make it as easy as possible for you.

Do you have a garage or are you a automotive glass specialist and want to replace car windows yourself? Then you can also simply order all your automotive glass from us without fitting and possibly even without delivery if you want to collect it from us yourself. We supply all our products to both private and business customers.
