The Volvo 760 is a remarkable model in Volvo's history. It was one of the many models with which the carmaker wanted to break new ground and was at the same time the premium precursor to the Volvo 740 that was to be a sales success. Against expectations, the 760 also became a success with which Volvo simultaneously earned a lot of prestige.

The Volvo 760 was groundbreaking, being the first all-new Volvo in quite a few years. Expectations were high when the model, designed under Jan Wilsgaard, was launched. The hope was that the new model could match the Volvo 240, but that proved (much) too high. The powertrain of the Volvo 240/260 was carried over to the new 760, but the bodywork was completely redesigned and with it the Swedish company launched a new model series that would define the 1980s for Volvo.
The new series was particularly notable for its angular, hard-edged design. This was intentional. Above all, Volvo wanted to aggressively gain market share in the US market and therefore adopted the design of popular models overseas. With this, it was also no coincidence that the new 760 was much roomier than its predecessors, giving all occupants more space.
The Volvo 760 entered the market in several versions, including the line with its own PRV-B28E petrol engine (developed together with Renault and Peugeot) and the line with the TD24 borrowed from Volkswagen. A total of 221,309 were made, but what is particularly striking is how the Volvo 760 Executive was produced. Volvo is already not known for efficiency, but this model hit everything. The longer Volvo 760 Executive was made in Laholm (Yngve Nilssons Karosseri AB to be precise), where ready-made Volvo 760 models were delivered and then literally made longer to gain 16 centimetres.
We should first make it clear that the Volvo 760 was never developed to be a sales success. On the contrary, the model was meant to chart a new path for Volvo and was mainly meant to be a test number for the Volvo 740 that was launched two years later. However, the 760 surprised friend and foe by tapping more than 200,000 models sold and gaining an almost iconic status. Unfortunately, unlike the 740 line, quite few Volvo 760 models are seen today.
The windscreen of your Volvo needs to be replaced if there is glass damage in the driver's field of vision, involving at least a branched crack or a chip with a diameter of more than 20 millimetres. Windscreen repair is not possible in these cases and the car will not pass the MOT, as these two cases of car windscreen damage are reject points.
Is the windscreen damage in other places or is the size limited? Then you may continue driving with the chipped windscreen, but keep an eye on it. The windscreen may crack further, especially if there are large temperature differences on either side. Here you can think of driving in summer with the air conditioning on, or defrosting the windscreen in winter by putting the heater full on the windscreen.
You already have a new windscreen for your Volvo 760 for €299. This is the same windscreen as for the Volvo S90 and Volvo 960, which is another indication that Volvo likes to reuse models and parts. The price of our windscreens is much lower than those at your Volvo dealer. This is due to the brand logo in the Volvo windscreens at your dealer. This logo does nothing for the automotive glass, but it does add to the exclusivity you may pay for.
Our automotive glass has no brand logo, but otherwise the automotive glass is identical to Volvo's original windscreens. Indeed, it is even made in the same factories in most cases. So if you want to be sure you are choosing the best value for money, choose aftermarket automotive glass.
