Cheap windscreen replacement for your Skoda Superb

The Skoda Superb has been a resounding success for Skoda and at the time of writing is already in its fourth generation. In the Netherlands, the Superb ranks high in the lists of best-selling Skoda models and Superbs are still rolling away from dealers. Do you have a Skoda Superb and has the windscreen been damaged? Then we will be happy to tell you when the windscreen needs replacing and what a new Skoda Superb windscreen will cost when you choose us. Before we do so, we will of course take a detailed look at this Skoda success number.

2001: the first generation of the Skoda Superb

The first generation of the Skoda Superb would be launched in late 2001 and was derived from the Volkswagen Passat (the B5-LWB, or variant made by the manufacturer in Shanghai). The Superb was placed in the D-segment as a medium-sized family car and was fitted with a whole host of petrol and diesel engines borrowed from Volkswagen.

In 2006, the model received a facelift, which saw Skoda's signature C-shaped lights placed at the rear (similar to the Skoda Octavia and Skoda Roomster), new headlights, indicators on the mirrors and a new grille.

Skoda wanted to make an estate version of the Superb, but Volkswagen feared that this would rival the Volkswagen Passat Variant and the Audi A4 Avant and therefore put a stop to it.

The second generation in 2008

When the second generation arrived in 2008, it was clear that Skoda was ready to conquer the market. Thus, it immediately made sure to introduce a TwinDoor tailgate, which could open in two ways (whole tailgate including window open or just the part below the rear window). Once again, engines from Volkswagen were chosen, with the range also to be expanded in 2010. Customers could also choose between 16, 17 and 18-inch wheels, and numerous options and equipment levels, making the Superb attractive to a wide audience.

2015: a new generation for the Skoda Superb

The third generation of the Superb was put on the MQB platform, on which many successful models had been placed, including the:

This model was larger than its predecessors and would still be Skoda's fastest production car at the time. It took just 5.5 seconds to get from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour and had a maximum speed of just under 250 kilometres per hour.

The third generation got a facelift in 2019, with LED lighting and new ADAS systems such as Emergency Assist and Predictive Cruise Control. It also launched the first plug-in hybrid with an all-electric range of 55 kilometres.

2023: the fourth generation of the Skoda Superb

The fourth generation came out in 2023 and leans heavily on the B9 version of the Volkswagen Passat and is offered with petrol and diesel engines, and a plug-in version (for the Combi only). The most striking thing about the fourth generation is its design, which is much sharper and is part of the new “Modern Solid” design programme.

What also stands out is that the fourth generation is packed with features, such as a 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a Jumbo Box (5.5 litres) of storage space under the armrest, wireless charging station for phones, massage in the seats and numerous other additions that clearly make the Superb even more luxurious than it already was. This made it even clearer that Skoda wanted to drive the Superb's success even further, and that this was a success was immediately evident in the sales figures.

The success of the Skoda Superb

When we look at the number of units produced of the Skoda Superb, it is immediately clear how successful this model has been. For instance, 148,000 were made in 2016, with another 147,000 a year later and 137,000 in 2018. Actually, there haven't been any bad years for the Superb and we can see that in the Netherlands too, where the Superb ranks third on Skoda's list of best-selling models, right behind the Skoda Fabia and Octavia.

The advert below is a clear sign that Skoda has a sense of humour. The brand used to get a lot of criticism for its mediocre models, but since its partnership with, and eventual takeover by, Volkswagen, the name got considerably better. Of course, there were then those who said that Skoda models were no longer Skodas. And this is a response to that from the car manufacturer:

When should the windscreen of your Skoda Superb be replaced?

It is always annoying when your car gets damaged, as this quickly runs into costs. When it comes to car windscreen damage, this can soon be even more annoying, as it obstructs your view of the road. Nevertheless, the windscreen does not have to be replaced in all cases of windscreen damage. There are two situations where you do need to look for a new windscreen for your Skoda Superb. Is the windscreen damage in the driver's field of vision and is this a chip with a diameter of at least 2 centimetres or is it a branched crack? Then your car will be rejected at the next MOT and the windscreen will have to be replaced.

In all other situations, you can choose to continue driving with the damaged windscreen, although you can choose to have the windscreen replaced at any time. This is practical to know when you see the price of our new cheap windscreens below.

What does a new Skoda Superb windscreen cost?

Because you already have a new windscreen for your Skoda Superb for €349 (also suitable for the Volkswagen Passat built between 1996 and 2005). This means that our replacement windscreens are much cheaper than the original automotive glass, which is surprising because the quality is identical. The big difference is in a small brand logo that is incorporated into Skoda's original windscreens, which makes them look exclusive. This is a fairly big part of the price tag. Since we are not involved in this, you can always come to us for automotive glass with the best value for money. The difference in price is so great that our new windscreens are often still cheaper than second-hand car windows.

Can you replace the windscreen of your Skoda Superb yourself?

You can only replace your car's windscreen if you have (a lot of) experience with this and if you have the right tools. In most cases, this means that we have to advise against replacing the windscreen of your Skoda Superb yourself. To help you in the best possible way, we therefore work with professional fitting partners who replace windscreens on-site.

Are you a specialist yourself or do you know someone who can replace the windscreen of your Skoda Superb for you? Then you can also order new car windows from us without fitting.
