Professional windscreen replacement for your Kia EV5

The Kia EV5 is the third model in Kia’s EV range and was launched back in 2023, but it would be another two years before we saw this model at dealerships in Europe. Kia’s EV range has been a resounding success worldwide, and the Kia EV5 is also proving very popular with consumers. If you have a Kia EV5 with windscreen damage and the windscreen needs replacing, you will find new windscreens of excellent (dealer) quality at an attractive price with us. Before we tell you all about this, let’s first take a brief look at Kia’s EV5.

2023: the Kia EV5 is launched as Kia’s third EV model

The Kia EV5 went into production as early as August 2023, just five months after the concept car for the model was unveiled in China. The concept car featured many reused and sustainable materials, such as seaweed extract and recycled plastic bottles. That, plus the fact that the model was fully electric (just like all other models in Kia’s EV range), was intended to make this a future-proof model.

The Kia EV5 was intended to fill a gap in the market, as Kia already had models for the low and high segments, but there were no true mid-range models. The EV5 is built on the e-GMP platform (which we already know from the Kia EV6 and Kia EV9), but is also equipped with front-wheel drive and shares much of its technology with the Kia EV3.

The Kia EV5 was set to be rolled out to other markets in phases. In most markets, the Kia EV5 was due to be available at dealerships by the end of 2024, but Europe had to wait until the final quarter of 2025. Here, the Kia EV5 was fitted with an NMC battery (nickel, manganese and cobalt) to improve the battery’s energy density. In practical terms, this primarily results in a longer range and better performance at lower temperatures. The Kia EV5 for the European market is available in three trim levels: the Air, GT Line and GT Line S.

Range of the Kia EV5 and charging

All trim levels for the European market are fitted with an 81.4 kWh battery pack. This provides a (WLTP) range of around 530 kilometres, which is mainly due to the high kerb weight of this model, which is just under 2,000 kilograms. Thanks to its powerful on-board motor, the EV5 can charge from 10 to 80 per cent in 30 minutes (DC). If you wish to charge the Kia EV5 at home, at work, or at a public AC charging point, the maximum charging power is 11 kW.

How successful is the Kia EV5?

When launching the Kia EV5 for the European market, Kia focused on solving a problem: the often significantly lower range in cold weather conditions. At the same time, a great deal of attention has been paid to sustainability, something that aligns with the wishes of many consumers (and governments), but that does not automatically make the model a huge success. The fact that this is the model with which Kia is filling a gap (Kia had no EV for the mid-range segment) and the fact that this model was immediately well received by motoring experts (who described it as understated yet familiar, with all the necessary digital systems without it turning into an aeroplane cockpit), have indeed made this model a great success. In fact, when the model was launched, Autoweek immediately wrote that the Skoda Enyaq had cause for concern.

Even in terms of advertising for the European market, Kia seems to have focused more attention on the EV5, because although little information is provided about the model, the idea behind the advert is immediately clear to many viewers.

When does the windscreen of your Kia EV5 need replacing?

Windscreen damage is a nuisance and can be quite a bother. That is why there are strict regulations regarding the condition of the windscreen, but this does not mean that the windscreen has to be replaced for every type of damage. On the contrary, in most cases you can simply carry on driving with a damaged windscreen. This does not apply if there is a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres or a branching crack within the driver’s field of vision. In such cases, the Kia EV5 windscreen must be replaced and the car will no longer pass its MOT.

How much does a new Kia EV5 windscreen cost?

Even so, there’s no need to panic, as replacing the windscreen of your Kia EV5 (or having it replaced) is more affordable and easier than you might think. For instance, you can find a new Kia EV5 windscreen with us for €849. This is considerably cheaper than at a Kia dealership, whilst our windscreens are of the same dealer quality. The main difference lies in a small brand logo incorporated into the original windscreen, which is factored into the price. You are therefore paying an unnecessary premium for exclusivity, whereas you could opt for our unbranded replacement car windows, saving hundreds of euros without compromising on quality.

Can you replace the Kia EV5 windscreen yourself?

By definition, it is not a good idea to tinker with an electric car, due to the high voltages in the battery pack. Garages and workshops therefore use protective clothing and special tools to ensure the safety of staff. Furthermore, we generally advise our customers against replacing the windscreen themselves, as this is a difficult job where a lot can go wrong; even a small mistake can cause damage to the new windscreen or the car, which will only result in much higher costs.

That is why we work with professional fitting partners, garages and workshops throughout the Netherlands and Belgium. Even on-site windscreen replacement is an option. In almost all cases, the Kia EV5 windscreen can be replaced within a few working days, meaning you can be back on the road safely with your EV5 in no time.

Are you an automotive glass specialist yourself, or do you run a garage or workshop where you replace car windows for your customers? Then you can of course also come to us for new car windows without fitting. You can easily arrange this during the ordering process, where you can also choose to collect the order from us (by appointment only).
