The Kia EV3 is one of Kia's many electric cars made in a larger series to make Kia's car range ready for the future. The Kia Ev3 is one of the most successful models in the EV series, but at the expense of the success of another Kia model. In October 2023, Kia came up with the EV Concept Car and about half a year later, the Kia EV3 emerged from that in 2024, going on sale the same year. It used a number of design elements from the Kia EV9 in its design and, like many other models from Kia, leans on the “Opposites United” design. The chassis of the Kia EV3 is borrowed from the Hyundai-Kia K3 platform, but it has been adapted for all-electric cars. Kia calls the new platform the Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).
The Kia EV3 is equipped with plenty of features and gadgets, including numerous ADAS systems such as parking assistance, HUD display, as well as a slide-out table and a 12-inch infotainment screen. Buyers can also choose a version themselves in which more recycled materials have been used.
The Kia EV3 has a range of 600 kilometres, which is decent, especially for an electric car in this price segment. At the same time, fast charging does take a lot of time: you need half an hour to get from 10 to 80 per cent. For home charging, the maximum you can charge is 11 kW and you need a charging cable with a Mennekes plug (type 2). Kia has thus adapted the model for the expert and opted for the standard connection in Europe for the EV3.
Kia has scored a huge success with the Kia Niro, which is a big favourite among the Dutch in 2021. The Kia EV3 also seemed to succeed in 2025, but in the last month of the year, its sales figures were beaten by the Skoda Elroq, dropping the Kia EV3 to second place. Around the world, the EV3 found eager sales, which was mainly due to its strong price to range ratio.
That success did come at the expense of the Kia Niro. Looking at the sales numbers of both models, it is clear to see that the Kia Niro started a decline the moment the Kia EV3 entered the market. Kia, by the way, was not awake to this and even indicated that the carmaker had already expected this.
The rules around windscreen damage are the same for all cars, including your electric Kia EV3. In most cases, you can simply continue driving with a damaged windscreen, but there are two cases where this is not the case. If there is a chip in the driver's field of vision with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres or a branched crack, the windscreen needs to be replaced. Therefore, with this windscreen damage, the car will not pass the next MOT.
This is because the size and location of the windscreen damage causes reduced visibility on the road, the damage distracts while driving, and incoming light (from the sun or the headlights of your oncoming traffic) can be reflected in unpredictable ways, which can cause glare. Therefore, it is important not to continue driving in these cases, but opt for windscreen replacement.
