Affordable windscreen replacement for your Kia Cerato

The Kia Cerato has a striking history when you look at the model in Europe. Indeed, Kia soon realised that the Cerato had no chance on our continent and took the Cerato away from here, while this model still remained on the market in other parts of the world. Still, more than 3,000 units were sold in the Netherlands. If you have one and the windscreen needs replacing, you can find cheap new windscreens without compromising on quality. Before we get into this further, let's look at how hard the Cerato flopped in Europe.

A short life of the Kia Cerato in Europe

The first generation of the Kia Cerato entered the market in 2003 and shared the platform with the Hyundai Elantra. The model was given many different names, including Kia Forte (North America), Kia Shuma (China), Kia K3 (South Korea), Kia Spectra and even Kia Sephia (Latin American market where the predecessor's name was retained).

The compact car never became a success in Europe. Kia realised this early on and pulled the plug on the model for the European market in 2005. The South Korean carmaker then radically changed course for the EU market and developed a car specifically for Europeans, namely the Kia Cee'd.

The Kia Cerato did remain in production outside Europe

The Kia Cerato disappeared from Europe, but this would not be the end of the model. On the contrary, as this model remained in production in China until 2020, and in other markets the name was changed when the second generation was introduced, where it would be called Forte.

The model would get another third generation in 2012 and a fourth generation in 2018. These models were reasonably successful in the markets where they were offered, but the Kia Cerato would not return to Europe, partly because the Kia Cee'd had become a resounding success there.

Was the Kia Cerato a success for the South Korean carmaker?

If we look at the European market, the Kia Cerato was a complete flop that was soon taken away from dealers to make room for the Cee'd here. Looking at the international market, we see a completely different picture. Although concrete figures are lacking, there were millions of units made of the Cerato (and the model with another name) and it did become a success outside Europe.

Of course, we are happy to make room here for one of Kia's most unusual advertisements (keep in mind that “Spectra” is simply another name for the Cerato).

When should the windscreen of your Kia Cerato be replaced?

Since a windscreen is made of laminated automotive glass, in other words a double layer of glass with a layer of PVB film in between, it does not simply disintegrate in the event of windscreen damage. However, it does not mean that the windscreen cannot be damaged at all. On the contrary, a small stone splashing against your Kia Cerato windscreen can already cause a chip or crack. In far from all cases, this means that the windscreen also needs to be repaired or replaced immediately. In fact, in most cases you can simply continue driving with the damaged windscreen.

This does not apply if the windscreen damage is in the driver's field of vision and if it is a branched crack or a chip with a diameter of at least two centimetres. This window damage is too distracting and prevents you from having a clear view of the road. It can also reflect incoming light in unpredictable ways, which can lead to glare while driving. Therefore, the windscreen of your Kia Cerato does need to be replaced in these cases, also because your car will no longer pass the MOT with this windscreen damage.

What does a new Kia Cerato windscreen cost?

If the windscreen needs to be replaced, there is still no reason to panic. After all, you already have a new Kia Cerato windscreen for just €349. This includes VAT and excludes the cost of a new windscreen moulding (€50 and you can order these directly with us). Our new Cerato windscreens are significantly cheaper than the original windows for this model, while the quality of the automotive glass is identical. They are even made in exactly the same way.

The price difference is in the brand logo found in the original car windows. This logo creates an exclusive character, which you will see reflected in the price. The price difference is so great that our new unbranded Kia Cerato windscreens are often still cheaper than second-hand car windows for this model.
