Cheap windscreen replacement for your Ford Ka

The Ford Ka has long been known as one of the smallest cars, which has directly been the reason for its success. Small, convenient around town and extremely economical. The Ka would also kick up dust because of the unusual ads the Americans came up with for the Ford SportKa. The Ka was a big sales success in the Netherlands. Do you own one of these and need to replace the windscreen? Then you will find new windscreens with the best value for money with us. Before we look at our cheap automotive glass, let's look back at the extraordinary Ford Ka that would dominate several markets for quite some time.

1996, the introduction of the new Ford Ka

In the 1990s, Ford realised that the US carmaker's big, thirsty models had pretty little appeal in the European market. Therefore, more and more small models were made, including the Ford Ka, which first arrived at dealerships in 1996. The Ka used the platform of the Ford Fiesta, but the exterior was completely redesigned, opting for the new style, which went into the books as 'New Edge'.

As with the Ford Fiesta and Ford Puma, the Ford Ka also received high praise for its road handling at its introduction, partly because the suspension was optimal and the little Ka had no trouble at all with hairpin turns. During its introduction, fairly few options were available for the Ka, but Ford would expand the number of options considerably during the Ford Ka's production years.

The only thing standing in the way of the Ka's success was the 1.3 4-cylinder under the bonnet, an engine that was by now many years old. While the engine was fine for the Ka, Ford was soon looking for a replacement for the Endura-E engine and found it in the Duratec, an engine block that Ford would use lavishly in subsequent models.

The second generation saw the light of day in 2008

After Ford also launched the Ford StreetKa and SportKa (a convertible and a sportier version respectively), it was time for a new generation in 2008. This Ka appeared in James Bond Quantum of Solace. Incidentally, the second generation would not even be made by Ford itself, but by Fiat, which made the new Ka alongside its own Fiat 500 and Fiat Panda.

The new Ka was fitted exclusively with engines made by Fiat itself, which meant that the second generation of the Ford Ka would have particularly little to do with Ford.

2014-2019, the third and final generation

The third generation of the Ford Ka arrived early in Brazil and India (2014), but would not come to Europe until 2016, where its official name would be 'Ford Ka+'. The latest generation was placed on the Ford Global B platform
and, partly because of this, immediately became significantly larger. The third generation was immediately equipped with numerous features, including Ford's MyKey, MyDock, control buttons on the steering wheel itself, automatic climate control and numerous other standard features and options.

It was clear that Ford wanted to make the Ka interesting to the European public again by significantly modernising it. Yet this generation would be taken out of production as early as 2019, to pave the way for Ford's new production plans.

Brutal marketing misses the mark

One of the most striking facts about the Ford Ka is that the SportKa received two ads in Britain that went down the wrong way with many people. The controversy was so great that Ford even decided to remove the ads (this is also the reason we are not showing you these videos here). Both ads featured animal suffering. In the first video, a pigeon died because the Ford Ka 'defended' itself against pigeon droppings by raising the bonnet. In the second video, a cat was decapitated by the Ka's roof being closed.

Ford chose this bold, cheeky marketing strategy to market the SportKa as the 'devil brother' of the Ford Ka, but the unsavoury content did not fall on good ground. Incidentally, these were not the only videos Ford was criticised for. The video featuring Kylie Minogue, which you can watch for yourself below, also caused quite a stir. Ford (probably partly because of the commotion) continued to use the ad as normal.

Has the Ford Ka become a sales success for Americans?

The Ford Ka has become a big sales success (in various versions) in Britain, although Ford will be pleased to see that the little Ka has sold well in several markets worldwide. More than 125,000 units were sold in the Netherlands, making the Ka the last in the list of Ford's most popular models in the Netherlands (along with the Ford Escort, Ford Focus and Ford Mondeo, among others). To illustrate, the model ranked below the Ka, the Ford Scorpio, sold 80,000 fewer units in our country.

When the windscreen of your Ford Ka needs to be replaced?

There are two cases when the windscreen of your Ford Ka needs to be replaced. These are always damage in the windscreen, in the driver's field of vision, involving:

  • A chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres;
  • Or a branched crack.

These cases of windscreen damage are grounds for rejection at the MOT. In addition, it can be dangerous to continue driving with this window damage. Not only does the crack or tear distract, the windscreen damage can also cause incident light to be reflected in unpredictable ways.

What does a new windscreen for the Ford Ka cost?

You already have a new windscreen for your Ford Ka for €239. We can offer our windscreens so cheaply because, unlike Ford windscreens, our automotive glass does not have a brand logo that makes it exclusive and therefore unnecessarily expensive. The price difference is so great that our new windscreens are often even cheaper than second-hand automotive glass for the Ford Ka.

Can you replace the windscreen of your Ford Ka yourself?

Replacing a car window yourself is not a good idea when it comes to the windscreen, unless you have a lot of experience with windscreen replacement. To make things easier for you, we work with certified fitting partners who replace car windows on-site throughout the Netherlands and Belgium. You have nothing to worry about and decide when the windscreen needs to be replaced.

Do you have a lot of experience in car window replacement or do you know someone who can replace the windscreen for you? Then you can of course order the windscreen without fitting it. You can even choose to collect the new windscreen from us (by appointment).
