Cheap windscreen replacement for your Ford Scorpio

The Ford Scorpio is a special model from Ford and there are several reasons for this. Not only because Ford mixed up the Granada and Scorpio badges and killed the model with a facelift itself, but also because the premium model found much more eager demand than anticipated for a model in the top end of the market. Do you own a Ford Scorpio and need to replace the windscreen because it is severely damaged? Then with us you will find quality cheap automotive glass as well as the option to arrange the windscreen replacement right away.

Before we take a closer look at our windscreens, let's take a closer look at this particular Ford model.

Ford Scorpio or the Ford Granada, what's the deal?

The story of the Scorpio begins rather remarkably. This is because the Ford Scorpio is the replacement for the Ford Granada
(the model that saw the light of day in 1972), but in Ireland and the UK, the Scorpio was marketed as a new generation of the Granada. In America, Ford chose to market the Merkur Scorpio briefly, but this was another model than the European Scorpio.

The European Scorpio was a model for the higher end of the market, which was mainly reflected in its long list of features, which mainly catered to driver convenience. The first generation, which borrowed heavily from the Ford Sierra, entered the market in 1985 while borrowing many styling elements from the third-generation Ford Escort.

Ford marketed the luxury Scorpio with a variety of engines to compete with Mercedes and BMW. Ford managed to stay just ahead of new models from Opel and Rover with the Scorpio, which undeniably contributed to its success.

Second generation from 1994 onwards: just the Ford Scorpio

After a minor facelift in 1991, the second generation of the Scorpio arrived in 1994, and its remarkable design in particular attracted attention. Although opinions were strongly divided on it, car reviewers (including Jeremy Clarkson) loved the model's luxurious interior, handling and performance. Incidentally, the second generation of the Scorpio would become the first Scorpio in Britain, as the 'Granada' label was retired there.

However, the model was already past its prime and the 1997 facelift received a lot of criticism, after which the Scorpio was not only called ugly, but also revealed that the car's reliability left much to be desired. Clarkson, who praised many elements of the Scorpio, even called the second generation one of the ugliest cars ever made and wondered aloud how people could buy a car they were sure would bring their children to tears. Although Ford had plans on the table to develop a new model for 1998, the US carmaker threw away the plans and the production line in the summer of '98.

How big was the sales success of the Ford Scorpio?

More than 44,000 units
of the Ford Scorpio were sold in the Netherlands. Although this puts the Scorpio high on the list of best-selling Ford models in the Netherlands (behind the Ford Ka and Ford Sierra), this picture is distorted. This is because the Scorpio is an exclusive car in the premium segment of the market, i.e. a model not directly made for the average car user. The Ford Scorpio also sold well in other European countries (until the facelift of the second generation, which would be the model's death knell), which in all likelihood means Ford will be very happy with its sales numbers.

That the Scorpio did not get a direct successor is not unique to Ford. With the Scorpio too, it was decided to close the line and not develop a new model on the same basis because the market was no longer waiting for such models, according to the US carmaker.

To see why the Scorpio was so successful, we really only need to grab the original promotional video of the Ford Granada Scorpio. To the modern viewer, this is a long and boring video, but a keen eye can see what Ford is doing here. Not only does it capitalise on the high end (a businessman living in an estate), but also all the features of the Scorpio come along, setting this model apart from all competitors on the market.

When should the windscreen of your Ford Scorpio be replaced?

For all car models, the windscreen should not have any discolouration or damage. However, this does not mean that you will be immediately taken off the road if you have a chip in the windscreen. Windscreen damage is only a big problem when it is window damage in the driver's field of vision and it involves a chip at least 20 millimetres in diameter or a branched crack. This is because with this windscreen damage, your car can no longer pass the MOT inspection, which means the windscreen has to be replaced.

Although you can continue driving with windscreen damage, it is good to remain critical. If the window damage is annoying and obstructs your view of the road, it is wise to intervene. Especially since incoming light (such as sunlight or the light from your oncoming car's headlights) can be reflected in unpredictable ways. This carries the risk of glare while driving. In addition, cheap windscreen replacement is easier than many car owners think.

What does a new windscreen for the Ford Scorpio cost?

With us, you can have a new Ford Scorpio windscreen for as little as €299 (excluding fitting and delivery, but including VAT). A windscreen for the Scorpio including heating costs €499. These prices are much lower than the prices the Ford dealer will charge you, because the automotive glass at the dealer is much more expensive than our replacement automotive glass.

The reason behind the price difference is the brand logo embedded in the automotive glass at the dealership. This is because this logo creates an exclusive character and that means a higher price, despite the fact that the logo does nothing for the windscreens themselves. Our windscreens are made in the same factories and are therefore of the same quality, but the price is much lower because you do not pay for an unnecessary brand logo in the glass. The price difference is so great that you often still pay less for our new windscreens than for second-hand car windows for the Ford Scorpio (which are also much harder to find, especially when you want to be sure they are in perfect condition).
