In 2012, Dacia teamed up with Renault to release the Dacia Lodgy. A model that was first developed to race successfully on ice and then went into production for the international market. The unusual model flopped and that was mainly due to its lack of safety in collisions. Do you have a Dacia Lodgy and has the windscreen been damaged? Dacia made several models for ice racing. The Dacia Lodgy Glace has been one of the most successful models, as it was the first MVP to win the competition. Alain Prost was the driver who would get the Glace in first place in the Andros Trophy. Incidentally, the Lodgy Glace was not Dacia's first model in this competition. Indeed, a season earlier, the Dacia Duster also raced in the extreme conditions.
At the time of its launch, Dacia had a good reputation in the Netherlands. After all, the Sandero and Logan were fine models in the lower segment, making it mostly a lot of car for relatively little money. The Lodgy would be put in the same segment, but with better trim to give an added sense of comfort and luxury. In terms of design, the Lodgy does leave something to be desired, but its handling was even approved by AutoWeek in Morocco. An atmospheric impression can be seen below.
The Lodgy came with an optional 7-inch navigation display. The model was marketed as a 5- and 7-seater and was produced exclusively in Tangier, at Renault's new factory.
The Dacia Lodgy was sold just over 3,000 times in the Netherlands, ranking far below Dacia's success models such as the Dacia Duster, the Dacia Logan and the Dacia Sandero. This is probably mainly due to its particularly poor score in the Euro NCAP safety tests. Indeed, the Lodgy received only three stars (the lowest score for a model in 2012). The tests showed that many safety features were missing and the bodywork was particularly poorly constructed.
Remarkably, the car was nevertheless in production for a particularly long time. For over 10 years, this model was made in the factories in Morocco, only to be succeeded by the Dacia Jogger.
While windscreen damage is always annoying, it is far from always necessary to think about windscreen replacement for your Dacia Lodgy right away. In fact, in only two cases does the windscreen need to be replaced. These are damage in the windscreen in the driver's field of vision, involving at least a branched crack or a chip at least two centimetres in diameter. In all other cases, you may continue driving as normal, as only the two examples mentioned above are grounds for rejection at the MOT.
Is there a more minor damage or window damage in another place? Then keep a close eye on the damage. In case of large temperature differences, the window may crack further. Think of the air conditioning on the windscreen during a hot summer day or the heating on full during sub-zero temperatures.

There are many repairs and checks you can carry out yourself on the car. This is convenient, because that way you can save significantly on costs. Replacing a car windscreen is not something you can do yourself, unless you have the technical knowledge, tools and time to do it yourself on a weekend day.
