When it comes to successful Alfa Romeo models, the Alfa Romeo 33 ranks high on the list. This model was a resounding success and is by far the most produced Alfa Romeo of all time, despite the fact that Alfa Romeo was only in production for 11 years. It was also a resounding success in the Netherlands, where almost 37,000 Alfa Romeo 33s were sold. Do you have a model that needs a windscreen replacement? Then you will find cheap new car windows with us without compromising on quality. Before we surprise you with our low prices, let's first put this special Italian model in the limelight.
When the Alfa Romeo 33 was introduced, there was no indication that it would be a huge success. In fact, the floor, chassis and even the drivetrains of its predecessor (Alfa Romeo Alfasud) were used for the new model in order to bring a small family car to market as cheaply as possible.
The 33 was launched as a 5-door hatchback and, not long after, as an estate car, and opinions were strongly divided. Firstly, because this Alfa Romeo also started to rust within a short period of time (a common problem for Italian cars at that time) and had problems with the electronics. At the same time, it was a true Alfa Romeo when it came to sublime handling and powerful engines, which made the family car a sporty means of transport.
The beginning of its success came when Alfa Romeo decided to market several versions of the Alfa Romeo 33, including a 4x4, a special Giardinetta (a 5-door estate) and numerous additional engines, which suddenly made the Alfa Romeo 33 interesting to a very diverse audience.
Usually, a car manufacturer gives a model a facelift and implements all the changes at once. This was not the case with the Alfa Romeo 33. With some exaggeration, you could say that the period from 1986 to 1990 was dominated by modifications and changes, which ultimately led to the arrival of the second generation.
It started with a minor facelift, mainly involving small cosmetic changes, such as a new front grille, aluminium rims in the range and transparent glass for the indicators. A new 1712 cc engine was also added to the range, together with a 1.8 turbo diesel that was mainly intended for the Italian market.
In 1988, a completely new phase of the facelift period began, with the Giardinetta now being called the “Sport Wagon” and new engines being added to the range once again.
The second “generation” of the Alfa Romeo is actually the second part of the production process after an even bigger facelift in 1989. From this point onwards, the model would be called “Series II” or “Nuova 33” (the new 33). The interior was completely redesigned, stronger engines were introduced, including the 135 hp engine, but the biggest change would cause the most controversy.
Alfa Romeo decided to galvanise the frames. This put an end to the rust problems that had plagued Italian cars for years in the northern parts of Europe (basically everywhere above Italy).
The importance of this and how big the difference was with its predecessor became immediately clear in the advertisements broadcast in the Netherlands. This advertisement would attract many people to the dealer.
The Alfa Romeo 33 has been a huge success for the Italian car manufacturer. Although the model was only in production for just over 10 years, it is the only Alfa Romeo model of which almost one million units were made. And that's not all, because the Alfa Romeo 33 spawned the Alfa Romeo 145 and Alfa Romeo 146, which in turn also became successful. These would use the same engines, but be built on the Fiat Tipo platform.
The iconic status of the Alfa Romeo 33 was confirmed once again in 2024, when a series of only 33 units were produced under the name Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale, a gem that we will probably never see on the streets.
Has the windscreen of your Alfa Romeo 33 been damaged? This does not always mean that it needs to be replaced immediately. In fact, in most cases, you can continue to drive with windscreen damage. However, if the damage is in the driver's field of vision and involves a cracked windscreen or a chip with a diameter of 2 centimetres or more, the windscreen must be replaced. Your car will therefore fail its next MOT due to the damaged windscreen.
Have you decided to continue driving with windscreen damage? Then check regularly to see if the crack or chip has grown. The damage can increase, especially with large temperature differences on either side of the windscreen. It may also be worthwhile to first check the price of our new windscreens below before you decide to continue driving with a damaged windscreen.
You can get a new Alfa Romeo 33 windscreen for €269, but first check the model year and whether you also need a new windscreen moulding (in almost all cases, it is wise to order this as well). Our new Alfa Romeo 33 windscreens are considerably cheaper than the original windscreens, which is remarkable because the quality is identical. In most cases, they are even made in the same factories, in exactly the same way.
The price difference is hidden in a brand logo that does nothing for the automotive glass, but does give the original car windows an exclusive character. The car windows we offer do not feature a brand logo, which is why you will always find Alfa Romeo windscreens with the best price-quality ratio with us. Our windscreens are so inexpensive that the price is often lower than that of second-hand windscreens for these models.
Not sure if you can replace the windscreen of your Alfa Romeo 33 yourself? Then we strongly advise against attempting to do so. Although it may seem like a simple job, the windscreen must be replaced correctly to prevent damage to the car, the new windscreen and yourself. To make it as easy as possible for you, we work with professional fitting partners who replace car windows on-site throughout the Netherlands and Belgium. So you never have to drive your Alfa Romeo 33 with a damaged windscreen, and you don't even have to look for a workshop: the mechanics will come to you.
