The Alfa Romeo 155 is a special model that has become known both for its quality and economy, and a model with which Alfa Romeo entered a new era. The model has become a reasonable success, including in the Netherlands where more than 10,000 units have been sold. Do you have an Alfa Romeo 155 and do you need to replace the windscreen? Then you can find new windscreens at a low price with us, without having to compromise on quality. Before we surprise you with the low prices of our automotive glass, let's take a look at the Alfa Romeo 155 and why this model is so special.
The Alfa Romeo 155 is the model that replaced the Alfa Romeo 75 (the last “real” Alfa Romeo) and was built on Fiat's Tipo Tre platform. The more exclusive 155 was particularly notable for its reasonably large size and yet exceptionally low consumption, with a boot of no less than 525 litres. However, Alfa Romeo fans were immediately disappointed when the model was introduced, as the new Alfa Romeo did not have rear-wheel drive, but front-wheel or all-wheel drive. And actually, it was not an Alfa Romeo either, as the new car was extremely similar to the Lancia Delta but with a slightly different design.
In 1995, the model received a number of modifications, including a wider body and the steering wheel was modified using knowledge gained in motorsport with the Alfa Romeo 155. New engines also arrived in the form of 16-valve engines for the 1.8 and 2.0-litre models. The interior was also improved by opting for better materials, something much more appropriate for a more exclusive model.
In 1998, production was discontinued and the Alfa Romeo 156 was launched as a replacement, a model that would see much more success.
Like many other Alfa Romeo models, the Alfa Romeo 155 ended up in motorsport, with two different versions, namely the GTA and the V6 (for the DTM). In Italy as well as in Germany and Spain, the Alfa Romeo 155 managed to achieve several podium finishes and the model therefore remained extremely popular until the Alfa Romeo 156 was chosen as its replacement. The Alfa Romeo 155 was known as the “German nightmare” during the period from 1992 to 1998, as it ended supremacy of German car models, which had a particularly hard time with this Italian monster.
The video below of an impressive hillclimb, does give a clear picture (and sound) of how good the Alfa Romeo 155 was in motorsport and why this model was so popular.
The Alfa Romeo 155 has left a nasty aftertaste for fans of the car brand. This is because the 155 replaced the Alfa Romeo 75, which was the last purebred Alfa Romeo before the company was taken over by Fiat. Also, the Alfa Romeo 155 was the moment the Italians switched to front-wheel drive after all the years of rear-wheel drive, which was precisely a big part of the models' appeal. These factors have been a drag on the model's success, according to many experts.
Below, we have posted one of Alfa Romeo's original advertisements for this model. This ad was aired in 1996 and is therefore for the Alfa Romeo after the facelift a year earlier.
Although the Alfa Romeo 155 is a more exclusive car with a lot of attention to quality, the windscreen is still simply made of laminated glass and that means it can be damaged, for example by a splashing stone hitting the windscreen at high speed. In most cases, you can simply continue driving with windscreen damage, but there are two cases where this is neither allowed nor safe. These are damage in the driver's field of vision that involves a branched crack or a chip at least 20 millimetres in diameter. In these cases, your car will therefore be rejected at the MOT because it no longer meets the requirements for road use.
Original windscreens for the Alfa Romeo 155 are quite pricey. Fortunately, you can find replacement windscreens with us that are considerably cheaper. With us, you already have an after market windscreen for your Alfa Romeo 155 for just €649. This low price is possible because our automotive glass does not feature a brand logo that gives the windows an exclusive character. That means you can always find Alfa Romeo 155 car windows with the best value for money with us.
Did you know that the price difference is so great that our automotive glass is often still cheaper than second-hand automotive glass? By the way, the Alfa Romeo 155 windscreen is also suitable for the Lancia Delta and the Lancia Dedra.
We strongly advise against getting to work on replacing the Alfa Romeo 155 windscreen yourself, unless you have (a lot of) experience with car windscreen replacement. A small mistake is enough to damage the new windscreen, the car or yourself, which can add up considerably in cost and inconvenience. That is why we work with professional fitting partners who replace car windows on-site, both in the Netherlands and Belgium. Since our partners always come to you, you never have to go out on the street with a damaged windscreen, nor do you have to look for a workshop or garage.
Do you have experience in replacing windscreens or do you know someone who can replace the Alfa Romeo 155 windscreen for you? Then you can also choose to order the new windscreen from us excluding fitting. You can even choose to collect your order from us. This can only be done by appointment.
