Affordable windscreen replacement for your Polestar 2

Although it is not entirely accurate, the Polestar 2 is often referred to as the first model from the car brand that would focus entirely on manufacturing electric cars, combining expertise from Sweden and China. The car manufacturer officially broke through with the Polestar 2 and achieved reasonable success with it. At the time of writing, this is by far the most popular Polestar model in the Netherlands, with more than 10,000 units sold. If you have a Polestar 2 and need to replace the windscreen, you have come to the right place. We offer the best windscreens for your car, without compromising on price. Before we tell you how much a new Polestar 2 windscreen costs, let's take a look at this special model.

2019: the Polestar 2 is unveiled to the public

The first Polestar model was, of course, the Polestar 1, but because this model was produced in limited numbers and was a plug-in hybrid (and therefore not a fully electric car), it received so little attention that the Polestar 2 is often referred to as the first model from the Swedish-Chinese car brand. The Polestar 2 was first shown to the public in 2019 and officially went into production in 2020. The release immediately attracted a lot of attention because the model had been eagerly awaited as it was intended to really put the collaboration between Volvo and Geely Holding in the spotlight.

The history of the model is somewhat remarkable. The Polestar 2 is based on the Volvo Concept 40.2, a concept car from 2016 that was never to be developed further because Volvo decided to make smaller crossover models. Polestar then took over the concept car and developed it into the Polestar 2, the first car with Google's Android Automotive system. Volvo did decide to modify the lights, grille and wheels to make the Polestar 2 look less like the concept car. The Volvo XC40 also originated from the same concept series, but from the Volvo Concept 40.1.

The Polestar would have a range (WLTP) of around 475 kilometres and, with a charging speed of 11 kW, it would take around 7 hours to charge the battery pack from 0% to 100%. DC charging is possible at 205 kW. The Polestar 2 is equipped with a Mennekes (type 2) connection for AC charging, which is the standard connection in the EU.

A facelift for the Polestar 2 in 2024

Facelifts often involve minor adjustments to refresh a model. The facelift of the Polestar 2 in 2024 was considerably more extensive, partly because the model switched from front-wheel to rear-wheel drive (for the entry-level models) and the base engine now became a 299 hp engine with 489 Nm, which would immediately make the Polestar 2 a much more attractive model. In addition, after the facelift, the model would be equipped with more sensors and a camera in the centre (at the front), which would make the model considerably more comfortable and safer.

The success of the Polestar 2 in absolute numbers

At the time of writing, more than 100,000 units of the Polestar 2 have been produced, of which more than 11,000
have been sold in the Netherlands. Although these are not staggering figures, it is an impressive achievement for a relatively young car brand that managed to convert an older concept car into a modern electric car in collaboration with Volvo. At the same time, sales figures are expected to have peaked and to decline from here on, especially since the Polestar 2 has a relatively low maximum charging speed compared to newer electric cars.

When should the windscreen of your Polestar 2 be replaced?

As you probably already know, the windscreens of modern cars are made of laminated glass, and the Polestar 2 is (of course) no exception. Since the Polestar 2 windscreen consists of two layers of glass held together by a layer of PVB film,
the windscreen does not simply shatter in the event of damage, which means that you may get a chip or crack in the windscreen in the event of damage. But in which cases does the windscreen actually need to be replaced in the event of windscreen damage? This is in the following two cases: a chip with a diameter of at least 2 centimetres or a branched crack, but only if the damage is in the driver's field of vision. Your car will then be rejected at the next MOT test because your Polestar is no longer considered safe for road use.

In all other cases, you can choose to continue driving with windscreen damage. However, be sure to check out the price of our new Polestar 2 windscreens below before making your decision, because our automotive glass is surprisingly affordable.

What does a new Polestar 2 windscreen cost?

You can get a new Polestar 2 windscreen for just €549, and that price even includes VAT. If you have already inquired about the cost of windscreen replacement at your Polestar dealer, you may think that our price is a mistake, but that is not the case. The quality of our replacement windscreens is equal to that of the original windscreens, but because our automotive glass does not feature an unnecessary brand logo that gives the glass an exclusive character, we can offer our Polestar 2 windscreens at a significantly lower price. The price difference is so great that our new car windows are usually still cheaper than second-hand windscreens for this model.

Can you replace the Polestar 2 windscreen yourself?

Tinkering with fully electric cars yourself is generally not recommended due to the high voltage of the battery pack. When mechanics work on such models, warning signs must even be placed in the garage and the mechanic must wear special, long gloves that do not conduct electricity. When it comes to replacing the windscreen, we actually advise against doing it yourself for all car models if you have no experience with windscreen replacement. Windscreens are heavy and large, and the job must be done accurately by a specialist to prevent damage to the new windscreen and car.

To make it as easy as possible for you, we work with professional fitting partners who replace car windows on-site throughout the Netherlands and Belgium. This means you can be sure that you will never have to look for a workshop or garage and that you will be back on the road safely with your Polestar 2 in no time.
