Cheap windscreen replacement for your Fiat Uno

When it comes to car models that have become legendary thanks to huge sales numbers, the Fiat Uno is high on the list. Not just because this is an affordable, compact model, but also because the Italians made a smart move and re-released the model for the South American market, causing sales figures to creep towards the 9 million mark.

Do you have an Uno and need the windscreen replaced? Then chances are you want a quality windscreen without paying unnecessarily much for it. Our cheap replacement car windows are then the best option. We will tell you all about it once we have looked at this particular model together.

1983: the beginning of the legendary Fiat Uno

The Fiat Uno was a supermini marketed directly as a 3- and 5-door in Europe in 1983. The model replaced the Fiat 127
and would become best known for its fuel efficiency, sporty driving style (low weight with a powerful engine) and, despite its compact size, generous occupant space. The Fiat Uno entered the market at a tense time: it was precisely during this period that all car manufacturers would launch compact models. The same period saw the release of the Nissan Micra, the Ford Fiesta, Opel Corsa and also the Peugeot 205.

However, the Uno managed to hold up well and even managed to sell 20,000 units in Britain in its first year, a market that had always been difficult for the Italians. That year, the Uno also won European Car of the Year
and narrowly beat the Peugeot 205. Fiat then decided to aggressively seek more market share with the Uno, including by releasing the Turbo i.e., special diesel variants and the Uno CS. This was a special model for the Brazilian market, actually derived from the Fiat 147,
and these models got completely different engines than the European models.

A facelift in 1989

Fiat is known for facelifts where little happens, but for the 1989 facelift for the Uno, this is not true. The entire front and rear were modified, the Uno got a completely new dashboard and numerous new engines. That a large-scale facelift was chosen this time, of course, had to do with the huge competition in the supermini market.

In 1995, the plug was pulled on the model after more than 6 million (!) units had rolled out of the Italian factories. Production then moved to Poland and the model was renamed the Innocenti Multi Clip. But this would not be the end of the Uno, as the legend would return one more time.

Did production of the Fiat Uno stop completely?

No, production would continue as normal in Morocco, India, South Africa, the Philippines, Pakistan and numerous other countries, with hundreds of thousands of sales worldwide. The Uno did disappear from Europe during this period and, incidentally, would not return here.

2010: a second generation for the Uno after 27 years

The second generation that saw the light of day in 2010 was in fact a model intended for the Brazilian market, looking more like a cross between a Fiat Panda and a Fiat Palio, than an actual Fiat Uno. This made little difference to its success, as once again tens of thousands of people flocked to dealers to pick up a car.

Nearly 9 million units rolled out of the factories

In total, more than 8.8 million units of the Fiat Uno were made, but that is partly due to the long production period from 2010 to 2021 with models marketed mainly in Brazil. Looking exclusively at the first generation, however, the Uno was still a resounding success, which becomes immediately clear when we add the sales figures in the Netherlands. Indeed, the Fiat Uno was sold almost 100,000 times
here, surpassing only the Fiat Punto and the Fiat Panda on the list of best-selling Fiat models in the Netherlands.

But how does a car manufacturer actually make promotional videos for a model that is actually mainly small and economical, and therefore not really ‘sexy’ to sell? Fairly simple, by turning it into almost a feature film that was of high quality in the year 1984 and which mostly capitalises on all the other facets that made this model such a good choice.

When should the windscreen of the Fiat Uno be replaced?

There are plenty of ways to get windscreen damage, but in which cases should the windscreen of the Fiat Uno actually be replaced? That is in two cases, always involving damage in the driver's field of vision. If there is a branched crack here or a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres, your car will be rejected at the next MOT. In all other cases, you can choose to continue driving with the window damage.

Should the damage be inconvenient or unsightly, or should you have your eye on a used car whose windscreen needs replacing, it may still be interesting to take a look below to see what a new Fiat Uno windscreen would cost you with us.

What does a new Fiat Uno windscreen cost?

After all, you already have a new Fiat Uno windscreen for just €249 and that includes VAT. This makes our windscreens much cheaper than the automotive glass at your brand dealer, and there is an explanation for this. Although the quality of the windscreens is identical, the original windscreens have a brand logo in the glass, which ensures exclusivity. This exclusivity ultimately comes at your expense, unless you opt for our after market automotive glass, which is usually made in the same factories.

Replace the windscreen of the Fiat Uno yourself?

Despite the fact that the Fiat Uno is a compact model and the windscreen is relatively small compared to other models, we advise against replacing the windscreen yourself if you have no experience in doing so. There is a risk that you may damage the car, the new windscreen or yourself during the windscreen replacement, or that the windscreen may not be fitted correctly, which could lead to unpleasant situations.

To make things as easy as possible for you, we cooperate with professional fitting partners who replace windscreens on-site throughout the Netherlands and Belgium. If you are a professional yourself, you can also simply come to us for new car windows without fitting. We work together with many workshops and garages, which enable them to make significant cost savings.
