Cheap windscreen replacement for your BMW X5

The BMW X5 was the first SUV of the German car brand and came onto the market in 1999 with the model number E53. BMW prefers not to call this model an SUV; it is an SAV (sports activity vehicle), just like the rest of the X-series, which therefore has its own characteristic name. The BMW X5 has had reasonable success in the Netherlands. If you own a BMW X5 and need to replace the windscreen, you can find new windscreens for your car from €249.

Before we look at these cheap car windows with the same quality as the ones at your BMW dealer, let's have a look at this model of BMW. Is it a car that can be used to run errands or is it primarily a car for the more sporty motorist?

1999: the year of birth of the BMW X5

It was no coincidence that the BMW X5 is the first SUV from BMW and that it was launched just after the takeover of Land Rover. BMW had wanted to enter the SUV market for some time, because that was where the current demand for new cars was. The BMW X5 was supposed to improve BMW's financial situation. That is why technology and know-how were used to the full in the development of the X5. For example, many of the parts from the Range Rover were used, as were the electronics and the engine.

In 2003, the model received a facelift, after which the first generation was taken out of production in 2006 to make way for the second generation of the BMW X5.

The second generation of the BMW X5; considerably German

The second generation of the BMW X5 saw numerous improvements, including BMW's iDrive system as standard for all models, and optionally more seats (seven). The top model M Performance (standard for the X line) was also added to the BMW X5 with the second generation; this model was available with an M Power V8 engine with turbo and an output of no less than 555 hp with 680 Nm.

In 2011 came the facelift for the second generation, and with it the BMW X5 became significantly more popular. The BMW X5 of model year 2011 did make it to the top sales charts (directly behind the BMW 3-Series and the BMW 5-Series).

The third generation in November 2013

In 2013, BMW introduced the third generation of the BMW X5. With the exception of a few changes (including to the engine range), it was mainly a continuation of the X5 line. Notable was the addition of the plug-in hybrid (the xDrive40e) with which BMW wanted to increase the target group for the BMW X5. The BMW X5 xDrive40e has an 83 kW battery and charges at 3.7 kW. This means that you will need a type 2 (Mennekes) 16A charge cable with 1 phase to charge this model.

Then in 2019, the fourth generation of the BMW X5 hit the market, with all models being equipped with the xDrive all-wheel drive system. A PHEV was also added to this generation.

The BMW X5 M

As we are used to from BMW, the BMW X5 is also equipped with a high performance model; the BMW X5M. The most recent version of this model is the G05 X5 M. A spectacular car with an astonishing promotional video, but at the same time a car that would be pushed aside by the BMW X6 M Competition.

When should the windscreen of the BMW X5 be replaced?

Does your BMW X5 have windscreen damage? If so, there's usually no need to panic. You can usually drive on with a chip or a crack in your windscreen. There are two cases where windscreen damage means a rejection by the MOT. The first is windscreen damage in the driver's field of view, whereby it is at least a chip with a diameter of 20 millimetres or a branched crack.

Is the window damage less extensive or is it outside the driver's field of vision? Then there's nothing to worry about. But it's wise to keep an eye on the damage, because a damaged window can crack further. Especially when there are large temperature differences between inside and outside the car. This is for instance the case when you put the heater on the windscreen during a cold winter day.

What does a new windscreen for the BMW X5 cost?

You can find new windscreens for the BMW X5 from € 249. In the overview you can easily select the right windscreen, after which you can decide whether you also want delivery and/or fitting.

Our BMW windscreens are considerably cheaper than the glass at your BMW dealer, despite the fact that the quality is identical. The big difference is in the brand logo. The windscreens at your BMW dealer have an exclusive character because they have a logo. Our windscreens don't have a logo (because it doesn't do anything for the window), so we can offer our windscreens much cheaper online.

Can I replace my BMW X5 windscreen myself?

If you're not sure whether you can replace the windscreen of your BMW X5 yourself, chances are it's a very unwise idea. Replacing a windscreen is work for the specialist.
