The little Alfa. Or the Alfa Romeo little Alfa, to keep it complete. That's what the Alfa Romeo Alfetta is, and this compact model has become a success. Not only during its production years, but also on the second-hand market where the Alfetta has been popular for a long time. If you have an Alfa Romeo Alfetta and need to replace the windscreen, you can find cheap automotive glass with us without compromising on quality. First and foremost, however, let's give this model the attention and space it deserves.
When the Alfa Romeo Alfetta entered the market in 1972, it was immediately clear that this was an innovative and surprising model. The Alfetta (“little Alfa” in Italian) was named after the Formula 1 car that had already been introduced in 1951. Something Alfa Romeo surprised car enthusiasts with was the choice of a transaxle system. This means that the gearbox and differential are found at the back of the car, while the engine is just under the bonnet. This particular choice ensured optimal weight distribution, which particularly drove the Alfetta's success and ensured ideal road holding.
The Alfa Romeo Alfetta was immediately marketed as a saloon (5-passenger) and a fastback coupé, although an Alfa Romeo Alfetta Berlina would also follow, a notchback for 5 people (4-door). This ensured that a wide range of different options was immediately available, with a variety of engines as well, including the 1,594cc that was popular for this model. In 1977, a 2.0 litre would also be added for the Alfetta 2000, which was also 10 centimetres longer than the other versions. With this, Alfa Romeo ensured that this model connected with the needs of diverse car buyers, especially in Italy itself where Alfa Romeo was extremely popular.
Many modifications were made to the model over the years and, in particular, many engines were added to the range, but three distinct facelift moments can be seen in these production years where larger modifications were made. First, the '82 Alfetta, the facelift in which all models received the interior and bodywork of the 2.0 models we already dropped by above. This was to modernise the Alfetta and reduce the differences between the models as the older versions disappeared from production.
A year later, the successor to the Alfa Romeo Alfetta was shown, the considerably larger Alfa Romeo 90. Production in Europe was stopped at the end of the same year, although the models would continue to be offered in other markets, including South Africa and North America.
Of course, special versions of the Alfa Romeo Alfetta were also made that were used in racing. These models were made by Autodelta and these are the Alfa Romeo Alfetta GT and the Alfa Romeo Alfetta GTV (with a 3.0-litre V8), which became reasonably successful but had a short life. This was mainly due to the chief developer at Autodelta, Carlo Chiti, who was much more interested in SportsCars and Formula 1, races where the Alfa Romeo Alfetta had no business.
Incidentally, the Alfa Romeo Alfetta even became the police car of the Carabinieri and state police in Italy. The model was also made even more famous by Aldo Moro, a politician in Italy who already survived an attempt on his life in 1974 (a train bomb), but was still kidnapped and murdered by the Red Brigades (the Red Brigade in Italy) in 1978. The escort car, which made headlines worldwide, was the Alfa Romeo Alfetta.
You might think that such a specific model could not easily become a big success, and in many cases this is true, because models that are not suitable for an average family often do not become a resounding success. The Alfa Romeo Alfetta falls completely outside this picture, as more than 400,000 were made and sold, although this will also be partly due to the Italian state.
The advertisement below is a gem from the old days, in which Alfa Romeo proudly praises its own models and calls a sporty and spacious car the car for the average businessman.
Car damage is annoying, especially when it is a more exclusive model like the Alfa Romeo Alfetta that you want to keep in good condition. When it comes to windscreen damage, it is good to know when the windscreen needs to be replaced. Is the windscreen damage in the driver's field of vision and is this a branched crack or a chip with a diameter of at least 2 centimetres? Then you need a new windscreen. The windscreen damage is too dangerous to continue driving and your Alfetta will be rejected at the next inspection.
If the windscreen damage is in a different place or limited in size, you may continue to drive with the damage. First of all, however, take a look at the price of our new windscreens, because getting your Alfa Romeo Alfetta back in optimal condition is much cheaper than you might think right now.
New Alfa Romeo Alfetta windscreens are quite pricey when you go to the Alfa Romeo dealer. However, if you look with us, you will already come across new windscreens for € 999. The quality of our automotive glass is identical to that of the original windscreens, but the price is much lower because you are not paying for unnecessary exclusivity because there is a brand logo in the automotive glass somewhere.
The price difference is so great that our new windscreens are often still cheaper than second-hand automotive glass, making it immediately clear that you can come to us for the best value for money.
