Cheap windscreen replacement for your Ford Focus

The Ford Focus has often been called one of the dullest, most solid and uninspired car models ever made. Ironically, therein lies a huge part of the success of the model that managed to conquer a huge market share within a few decades and proved that Ford was indeed able to draw a plan and then successfully (with an interruption admittedly) stick to it.

The Ford Focus is a great success, partly in the Netherlands. Do you have a Ford Focus and does your Focus need a windscreen replacement? Then you can find cheap automotive glass from us that is identical in quality to the windscreens at your Ford dealer. Before we look at our automotive glass prices, let's take a look at the special Ford Focus to see how it could become such a great success.

Ford Focus: the model that was developed for a specific reason

Designed primarily by Ford's German and UK team, the Ford Focus was to be the successor to the Ford Escort, which at the time was one of Ford's best-selling models of all time. The idea was to make one model for the global market and not have numerous versions side by side intended for specific markets.

Immediately after its introduction in 1998, the Ford Focus won the European Car of the Year award (1999),
but Ford deviated from its initial plans by bringing modified models to the North American market. Ford did not feel that the Focus would make a spectacle in its home market, because in America, only young buyers seek entry-level models and especially devouring, big cars are popular with the bulk of the market. Ironically, the Focus caught on immediately and it turned out that even many companies were eager for a more fuel-efficient, economical model and, in doing so, opted en masse for Ford's new Focus.

Second generation from 2004 to 2010: bigger and heavier

In 2004, Ford launched the second generation, which would have the same suspension. The interior was completely modified (in line with the Ford Mondeo and Ford Fiesta), which was possible because of the longer wheelbase. This not only made the car significantly larger, but also heavier, which users said had a detrimental effect on handling and made it more rigid.

Once again, Ford decided to go a different route for North America. Only the 2-door coupe and 4-door sedan entered the market here, and the interior differed from models elsewhere in the world. In addition, this model was never marketed as a 'second generation' in North America, as it was still on the same platform as of 2007.

2010: the third generation and again one model worldwide

In 2010, Ford reread the original plans and the US carmaker decided to once again equalise all models worldwide after all. The North American models were completely withdrawn from production and replaced by the third generation, which was simultaneously put in dealerships in Europe.

The third generation got a new engine at introduction (2.0 litre) and the top model, the Ford Focus RS, was equipped with all-wheel drive that could also switch fully to rear-wheel drive when needed.

2018: the fourth generation on the Ford Focus' birthday

In 2018, the Focus celebrated its 20th birthday and did so with the fourth generation, which was significantly sportier and more modern than its predecessors. The latest generation mainly featured more technology, such as FordPass Connect, CoPilot360 assistance and the Sync 3 infotainment system.
It also launched a special crossover (Ford Focus Active), which was supposed to make the Focus more responsive to market developments. This model was supposed to be the only Focus to be offered as a passenger car in the North American market after April 2018, but this came to a halt due to import duties (the Active was made in China). Ironically, this meant that Ford could not even place the model in its own US market unless it moved assembly to the US (which Ford did not do).

In April 2020, the curtain finally fell on the Ford Focus RS as emissions taxes and regulations in Europe made the model undesirable. In October 2021, the Ford Focus got another facelift (exclusively for the European market, partly because the Focus had already been removed from the range in America). A year later, Ford announced that production of the Focus would cease worldwide in 2025. From the announcement, Ford wanted to focus on electric cars and crossovers, which appeared to be in much greater demand in today's car market.

Just how big a success has the Ford Focus been?

The success of the Ford Focus has been immense, especially since the model is still at dealerships at the time of writing. In Britain alone, nearly a million units are currently registered
for road use. In the United States too, despite Ford's own negative prediction, the model became a resounding success where millions were sold before the type was taken out of production.

In the Netherlands, with some 270,000 units sold, the Focus is by far in the top three, effortlessly leaving the Ford Mondeo behind. However, the gap with the Ford Fiesta and Ford Escort is too big to catch up with, especially with the lacklustre sales figures lately. As a result, the Ford Escort will in all likelihood still be the front-runner for the top 3 best-selling Ford models in the Netherlands even in 2025 (when the model will be taken out of production). And that is impressive, especially when you dive back in time and go to the first advertisements that were supposed to make the Ford Focus interesting, in which Colin McRae (British rally racer) and the Focus shone.

When does your Ford Focus windscreen need replacing?

While a chipped windscreen can be particularly annoying while driving, not all windscreen damage is grounds for rejection at the MOT. The windscreen of your Ford Focus should be replaced if the damage is in the driver's field of vision and there is a branched crack or a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres. If the glass damage is more limited or not in the driver's field of vision, the car will not be rejected during the inspection.

However, it is wise to remain honest when estimating how inconvenient the damaged window is while driving. Not only does a chip or crack in the windscreen distract while driving, it also causes incoming light to be reflected in unpredictable ways. In many cases, windscreen damage is not a reason for rejection, but it is nevertheless wise to have the windscreen replaced. Especially when you know what a new after market windscreen for your Ford Focus costs from us.
