Cheap windscreen replacement for your Volvo FL

The Volvo FL has not become a resounding sales success, but at the same time it is one of the trucks that can be seen on the streets in numerous different designs and versions. Volvo wanted to develop a solid truck suitable for use in and between cities and has succeeded with flying colours with this model. Do you have one of these trucks and need a windscreen replacement? Then you have come to the right place. Before we surprise you with the price of our truck glass, we first make room for the special Swedish truck that can still be seen everywhere these days.

The Volvo FL, Truck of the Year 1986

The Volvo FL, or Volvo with Forward control and Low-level Cab came on the market in 1985 and is still in production at the time of writing. The model became a success and is mainly used in and around cities. Back in 1986, the FL won the Truck of the Year
award, which, incidentally, was no novelty for Volvo. Indeed, two years earlier, the Volvo F10 also won the award, and back in 1979, the coveted award in the truck world went to the Volvo F7. Incidentally, the Volvo FH has won the award for several years (including in 2000 and 2014).

One of the most versatile trucks ever?

The Volvo FL has been released under numerous names, weight classes and functionalities. By the way, you can always tell which engine you are dealing with from the Volvo's name. For example, the FL6 is a Volvo with a 6-litre engine capacity, where the larger FL7 is a 7-litre. It is precisely the flexibility and versatility of this Volvo that has ensured its success. For example, this range has been transformed into complete fire engines, rubbish trucks and the average goods transport trucks you see driving down the A12 and A28.

Volvo's extensive engine range (also in terms of economy as well as power) in particular ensured that the trucks found their way to numerous companies, because there was always an FL variant that fitted the bill exactly. For instance, in 1995 (10 years after introduction), a D6A250 engine was added to the range, with both a turbo and supercharger to deliver maximum power thanks to much higher torque at lower revs. This helped ensure that sales figures for the FL spiked significantly in the years after 1995.

Second generation from 2006 onwards

In 2006, the second generation of the Volvo FL entered the market, which mainly meant that the Deutz D7E 6-clinder turbo diesel engine with intercooler would replace the 7.2-litre engines in the Volvo FL7. It took seven years until the next major modification with the 2003 facelift, which would be a major facelift with a new grille and truck front end, including new 6-cylinder D8 engines and the 4-cylinder D5 engines. Volvo of course made sure that the Euro VI standard was also met, so that the Volvo FL would remain a popular and widely deployable model. After all, at the end of the day, these models are mainly intended for use in cities, where the demands are getting higher and higher.

When should the Volvo FL windscreen be replaced?

The windscreen of your Volvo FL needs to be replaced when there is damage in the windscreen, but only when it is a chip with a diameter of at least 20 millimetres or a branched crack AND it is in the driver's field of vision. In all other cases, you can continue driving with the chipped windscreen. However, it is wise to take a critical look at how disruptive the windscreen damage is, as the Volvo FL is mainly used in towns and villages. A clean windscreen with clear visibility and no distracting windscreen damage can make a big difference to a driver who spends all day on the truck.

What does a new windscreen for the Volvo FL cost?

You already have a new Volvo FL windscreen for just €299. It is suitable for the Volvo FL6 and the Volvo FS7 from 1993 onwards. When looking for the right windscreen for your Volvo FL, it's a good idea to look at the model year and type of FL you have and the windscreen rubbers (mouldings) that need to be ordered to enable windscreen replacement on-site. For each windscreen, you can immediately see which FL models the glass is suitable for. If you cannot find it yourself, please do not hesitate to contact us so that our experts can look with you and recommend the right windscreen.

In all cases, our Volvo FL windscreens are significantly cheaper than the truck glass that your dealer has ready for you.
