Low cost windscreen replacement for your Renault AE Magnum

When the Renault Magnum was presented in 1990 (under the name 'AE'), opinions were divided on its design and appearance. However, the truck was soon to become a success; for more than 23 years this striking appearance remained in production. The Renault AE Magnum was soon to become a regular player in the fleet of various transport companies and was also given two special nicknames: the fishbowl and the aquarium. These nicknames refer exclusively to the windscreen, which is much larger than the usual truck windscreen.

In case of windscreen damage, the windscreen has to be replaced. When will this be the case and how much does a windscreen cost for the Renault AE Magnum? Before we take a closer look at this special model, which would immediately be a source of inspiration for other truck manufacturers.

What makes the Renault Magnum so special?

The Renault Magnum was the first front steering truck in 1990 with a flat cab floor. With a far forward front axle and a high step in because of the flat floor, even the experienced trucker had to practice getting in and out of the cab gracefully. There are still truckers who have problems with this, because it is very different from the usual entry level. The Magnum didn't remain the only truck with a flat cabin floor for long, by the way; Mercedes-Benz was quick to take over the idea and implement it in its own trucks.

The Renault model itself didn't remain unchanged either, despite the fact that in 1991, one year after its introduction, the Renault AE was immediately proclaimed Truck of the Year. In 1997 the interior of the truck was modified, and in 2006 the chassis was also modified to meet the new EURO-5 standard. Two years later, the cab was raised and some more storage space was provided, which had been a criticism of drivers for some time.

Of course it was also time for a new advertisement, to clearly show that the adjustments had been made. And in doing so Renault proved that even advertisements for trucks can be put together quite well with a little effort:

The successor of the Renault AE Magnum

In 2013 the Magnum was taken out of production, after more than 20 successful years in which the truck was sold all over the world. It wasn't the end of an era, because Renault immediately had a worthy successor ready with the Renault T-series. Perhaps a little less revolutionary than the AE Magnum in 1990, but with exciting cab lines so that the new trucks were immediately picked up by the media.

Damage to your Renault AE Magnum windscreen

There are many ways to damage the windscreen of your Renault AE Magnum. From vandalism, for example, to splashing stones, misjudgements while driving or a bird hitting the windscreen the wrong way. Despite the high quality of the truck windscreens, it is still glass - and glass can break.

An innocent chip in the windscreen, outside the driver's field of vision, can do little harm in most cases. In most cases, you can continue driving with limited window damage outside the driver's field of vision. Is the glass damage in the driver's field of vision or is the glass damage extensive? Then it becomes a different story. After all, this is a truck that has to be kept on the road and a clear view of the road is very important.

When should the Renault AE windscreen be replaced?

Smaller chips can often be repaired easily and quickly. Extensive windscreen damage of course not. In these cases the windscreen of the truck needs to be replaced completely, so that the driver(s) have a clear view of the road again.

A windscreen replacement of your Renault AE Magnum doesn't necessarily mean that you will have to pay a hefty bill. That's why it's good to know how to keep costs as low as possible. After all, how much does a car window cost for the Magnum if it doesn't come from the brand dealer?

The cheapest windscreens for Renault AE Magnum

Car window replacement for a truck with such a large windscreen quickly becomes an expense when you opt for a new automotive glass at your brand's dealer. The alternative is to replace the windscreen with after market automotive glass. These car windows meet the same requirements and are often made in exactly the same factories as the brand windows. Yet there is a difference. Brand windows are provided with a brand logo, where the after market windows do not have a brand logo.

That seems to be a very small difference. And actually it is, were it not for the fact that this makes a big difference in prices. After market windscreens are much cheaper and this way you always get the best value for money. A nice idea when you need to replace the windscreen of your truck.
